A Twin Dilemma Trivia Quiz

No, it's not about the "Doctor Who" serial. I've found multiple sets of fictional, fraternal twins who are brother and sister. In this ten-question quiz about them, I've used various literature, movies, TV, and theater.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What film franchise are the twins Luke and Leia associated with?

Answer: Star Wars

Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa are introduced in the first of the films made, "Star Wars", where they are played by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. In this film, there's no hint that they're related, and by all accounts, this twist was not decided until the third film, "Return of the Jedi".

They were hidden from their father Darth Vader because the Emperor knew that Vader's offspring could threaten his rule over the galaxy. While both have Force sensitivity, Leia's appears to be more latent than Luke's in the films.

They also appear in multiple books and comics.
2. Artemis and Apollo are twins from Greek mythology. Along with the moon and sun, what are they goddess and god of?

Answer: Hunting and music

Two of the many children of Zeus, Artemis and Apollo were born to the Titaness Leto. Artemis was born first and, though newborn, helped her mother give birth to her twin. Along with the moon and hunt, Artemis is the goddess of childbirth, nature, and virginity, and is fiercely protective of her and her followers' chastity. Apollo is the god of the sun, poetry, music, prophecy, healing, and plague.
3. What are the DeVille twins from the animated series "Rugrats" called? Their first names fit their last name well!

Answer: Phil and Lil

While fraternal twins, Phil and Lil look virtually identical (though being animated babies, this isn't unreasonable) to the point where they can fool their parents as to who's who simply by passing Lil's pink hair bow back and forth. Apparently, the adults are so focused on the bow that they don't look at the clothes the babies wear in order to tell them apart: Lil wears a dress while Phil has shorts.

The twins tend to call each other by their full names, Phillip and Lillian, when they argue, which is frequent. Still, they are very close and generally don't like being separated.

They are voiced by the same person, Kath Soucie.
4. Uriel and Eimin from Marvel comics are also known as what? Don't worry--the world won't end if you don't get it right.

Answer: The Apocalypse Twins

Uriel Worthington and his sister Eimin are villains who appear in "X-Men" and "The Avengers", both Marvel properties. They are the children of Angel and Ichisumi, and were kidnapped by Kang the Conqueror. They have metal wings and raise powerful beings from the dead.
5. The Volsung twins, Siegmund and Sieglinde, come from which German opera?

Answer: Die Walküre

These two are the mortal offspring of Wotan (leader of the gods) and an unnamed Volsung (also spelled Wälsung) woman. They are possibly the unluckiest characters in Richard Wagner's four-opera cycle "Der Ring des Nibelungen". They're separated as kids when their house burns down, which kills their mother. Siegmund is shortly thereafter abandoned by his father and is an outcast, while Sieglinde is forced into an abusive, loveless marriage. When they meet as adults, they fall in love and conceive a son, Siegfried, but their happiness is very short-lived. They appear only in "Die Walküre", the second opera of the cycle, and I have a lot of sympathy for them.

In the "Nibelungenlied", one source for "Der Ring", Siegmund and Sieglinde (also spelled Siegelind) are still Siegfried's parents, though not twins.
6. Leto and Ghanima are the twin children of which science fiction character?

Answer: Paul Atreides

They first appear in "Children of Dune", the third book in Frank Herbert's "Dune" series. Leto (aka Leto II) and Ghanima are the children of Paul Atreides and Chani. Due to how much melange their mother consumed while pregnant, the twins gained adult consciences, plus the memories of their ancestors, before they were born.

This makes them pre-born, which makes them susceptible to possession by ancestors. However, they are able to avoid this fate. While Ghanima does marry her brother, it's for political purposes only, and she has children with another man.
7. All of these pairs are twins, but which of them are the Wonder Twins, superheroes from the "Super Friends" franchise?

Answer: Zan and Jayna

Zan and Jayna first appeared on the show "The All-New Super Friends Hour". Jayna can turn into any real or mythological animal. Zan can turn into any form of water. His power isn't as mundane as it sounds: if he becomes ice, he can take just about any form, from an airplane to a giant to a blizzard. In order to use their powers, they have to touch: without physical contact, they can't transform. They can also communicate telepathically with each other. Besides the "Super Friends" shows, they've shown up in "Justice League", "Smallville", "Teen Titans Go!", and "The Lego Batman Movie".

Johan and Anna are twins from the manga series "Monster". Adam and Adora are aliases for He-Man and She-Ra. Don and Dawn Allen are the Tornado Twins from DC Comics.
8. Twins Cersei and Jaime Lannister come from what fantasy book series, which has been adapted for television?

Answer: A Song of Ice and Fire

When they were born, Jaime was holding his sister Cersei's leg. They feel they belong together because they came into the world together. They have an incestuous relationship as well as children, including the psychotic Joffrey. George R.R. Martin writes the books, which HBO has adapted into the series "Game of Thrones", which is named after the first book.
9. In the play "Twelfth Night", who is Viola's twin brother?

Answer: Sebastian

Separated from Sebastian in a shipwreck, Viola believes him dead and disguises herself as a man. Her twin is not dead and, this being a comedy, hilarity ensues when he is mistaken for the man Viola disguises herself as. Who mistakes him? The woman who loves the man she believes Viola is. And Viola's in love with a duke...yep, sounds like a Shakespeare comedy to me.
10. Desna and Eska are fraternal twins from the Nickelodeon series "The Legend of Korra". What is their special skill?

Answer: Waterbending

These two waterbenders are the children of Unalaq, Chief of the Northern Water Tribe, and are introduced in season two. At first, they are loyal to their father, but when he destroys spiritual balance and becomes the Dark Avatar, Eska and her brother Desna abandon him and join Korra. They are able to do everything from the powerful, like chucking icebergs around, to the delicate, like skating down a snowy hill on ice boots. Personally, I don't find their apathetic, virtually emotionless characters compelling, and I think they're unnecessarily creepy.

Desna is the name of a river in Russia and Eska is an Alaskan creek. This series is a sequel to "Avatar: The Last Airbender".
