Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who suggested that Abraham Lincoln grow a beard?

Answer: Grace Bedell

Grace Bedell wrote Abraham Lincoln a letter to suggest that his face would look less elongated with whiskers. She was just 11 years old at the time.
2. Which Australian sports hero put their foot in their mouth by saying 'I owe everything to my parents....especially my mother and my father.'

Answer: Greg Norman (Golf)

Another such 'pearl' came from Australian cricketing commentator, Richie Benaud. He said 'that slow motion replay doesn't show how fast the ball was travelling.'
3. Which fish takes aim at its lunch?

Answer: Archer

The archer fish eats insects. Since insects are found above the surface of the water, the archer shoots a stream of water upwards in order to knock its prey into the water.
4. Who invented the toothbrush?

Answer: Joseph Addis

While imprisoned, Joseph made the first toothbrush out of a bone saved from his dinner and small bundles of hog's hair.
5. What makes a Mexican jumping bean jump?

Answer: being eaten by a caterpillar

After the caterpillar has eaten the inside of the bean, it goes to sleep. The bean jumps when the sunlight makes the caterpillar too hot. It moves around or jumps until it feels some shade.
6. Can someone be double-jointed?

Answer: No

It is impossible to be double-jointed as a joint is like a hinge. The illusion of what we know as being double-jointed comes from an overstretched ligament.
7. What strange object does a farmer often force a calf to swallow?

Answer: a magnet

Calves have a strange habit of eating metal. The magnet holds the metal in one place in the stomach. This prevents the metal causing unrepairable damage also known as Hardware Disease.
8. Who invented the reading system for the blind?

Answer: Louis Braille

Louis invented the Braille system when he was just 16 years old.
9. If you burn your hand, what is the best thing to do?

Answer: Run tepid water over it

When your hand feels like it's on fire, think of a house that's on fire - what puts it out? You can't soak the house in water or smear it in butter or put ice on it. Putting butter on a burn only holds the heat in longer and continues to burn the tissue - of all the choices listed, this is the worst.
10. According to a popular urban legend, why did Cinderella wear glass slippers?

Answer: She didn't

According to legend, Cinderella originally wore shoes made from squirrel fur. It is said that, in 1697, Charles Perrault accidentally copied the word 'verre' meaning glass instead of 'vair' meaning fur when translating the original into his own language.
