Ljubljana has 265,881 citizens (2004). Germans call the city Laibach and the Italians call it Lubiana. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria, Slovenja is made up and Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia.

Answer: Republika Slovenija

Republika Slovenija was declared independent in 1991 and was recognized in 1992. Slovenská Republika is the official name of Slovakia, Republika Crna Gora is the official name of Montenegro and Republika Hrvatska is the official name of Croatia.

Nove Zamky is a Slovak city. Kranj is the capital of the region Gorenjska, and, with a population of 51,225 (2002), the fourth largest city in Slovenia. Velenje was called Titovo Velenje from 1981 to 1991 after the former president Tito of Yugoslavia. Novo Mesto means New Town, and is called Neustadt in German.

It was founded in 1365 and was then called Rudolfswert (or in slovene Rudolfovo) after the Habsburg Archduke Rudolf IV of Austria.
5. How long was the independence war between Yugoslavia and Slovenia?

Answer: 10 days

Eighty per cent of the Slovenian people voted for independence, and the country declared its independence June 25 1991. A ten day war with Yugoslavia followed. Sixtyseven people were killed, thirty nine of them were from the Yugoslavian army. After only ten days they withdrew their troops back to Belgrade.

The Slovenian flag was officially adopted on June 24, 1991 and has three horizontal lines of white, blue and red. Near the top left corner is the coat of arms which consists of the highest peak, Triglav, in white with 3 yellow stars, and beneath there are two wavy lines representing the rivers and sea.
9. What is Dolenjska?

Answer: A Slovenian region

Dolenjska is called Lower Carniola in English, and Unterkrain in German. The capital of the region is Novo Mesto. The region is famous for its wine, and its beautiful scenery, dominated by the alps, and the Krka river.

Answer: Zdravljica

Zdravljica was adopted as the Slovenian anthem in 1989. Hej Slowianie, Hej Slovani and Hej Sloveni are all the same song in different Slavic languages, it means 'Hey, Slavs'. 'Hey, Slavs' was the previous national anthem used by former Yugoslavian republics after 1945.
