Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The work of which scientist allowed us to observe the rates at which stars are moving towards or away from the Earth, via the 'red shift'?

Answer: Doppler

Christian Johann Doppler, a German scientist, first described his 'Doppler Effect' in 1842. It explains why the pitch of the sound a moving object makes as it moves towards or away from you...and was also employed to develop the use of 'red shift' to determine the distance of astronomical objects from Earth.
2. In what small Italian city was Leonardo da Vinci born?

Answer: Vinci

This was a bit of a trick question, I suppose...but a good one for Leonardo da Vinci lovers! His name in English means 'Leonard of Vinci', and signifies that he was born in that small Tuscan town, not far from Florence.
3. Who of the following was among the founders of the Super-Secret organization called the Bilderbergers?

Answer: Prince Bernhard

For all of you conspiracy theorists out there, this question should have been of interest. Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands was one of several individual who was involved in the founding of this ultra-exclusive organization that is said to 'rule the world' behind the scenes.
4. What word in Sanskrit means to be 'free from fear, want, and ignorance'?

Answer: Dharma

The Dharma is one of the three jewels of Buddhism. It's the word used to describe the collective teachings and practices associated with that great world religion. There is no Sanskrit word 'Greg'...however.
5. The Old French term 'tache' was used to describe what sort of habit?

Answer: Bad

The modern terms 'techy' and 'tacky' are derived from this Old French term, via the Old English tecche or tache, meaning 'a bad habit'. In the modern parlance it is rarely if ever used. Thank you for attempting this quiz, difficult as it may be...please give my other mixed quizzes an attempt if you wish for a true challenge!
