Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Without even delving into a summary of the episode, the name "Full House" can be examined quite easily. Which of these hands of cards is a Full House in poker?

Answer: 8h, 8s, 8c, 4d, 4h

While not the rarest hand in a poker match, the Full House is certainly one of the more difficult to obtain. To pull a Full House the player must have three cards of the same type (e.g. three 8s) and two of another (two 4s). If two people have a full house, the higher set of three will determine the winner. The odds of drawing this in a randomly-shuffled deck is a slight bit more likely than 1 in 700.

Kh, Kd, Ks, Kc, Qd would be Four of a Kind in which you have four cards of the same rank. This is the next step up from the full house but several times more rare. Under the same circumstances, your chances are 1 in over 4,000 to draw this hand.
5s, 6d, 7h, 8h, 9c is a Straight, a significantly easier hand than a Full House. At approximately 1 in 250 odds, this can happen with any chain of cards as long as they form a chain of consecutive values like the example above. If they were all the same suit, you'd have a Straight Flush (of 1 in over 70,000 odds) and if they were 10, J, Q, K, and A in the same suit they'd be the highly-coveted Royal Flush, the rarest hand in the game with odds almost as rare as 1 in 650,000.

2d, 4h, 6c, 8c, 10s is junk compared to the other choices. You'd play high card (the ten of spades) and hope for the best.
2. The twenty-third episode of "Full House" undoubtedly features popular celebrity twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Twenty years after the debut of "Full House", Mary Kate appeared in a role on what drama/black (or green) comedy airing on Showtime?

Answer: Weeds

"Full House" was the first gig for fraternal twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and because of their popularity they starred in a number of straight-to-video movies and kids TV shows about their wacky antics as twin sisters in subsequent years (long after "Full House's" end in 1995.

While Ashley set her focus on a clothing line and cosmetics, Mary Kate continued to act solo on TV shows like "Samantha Who?" and "Weeds" (on which she played a role for eight episodes of the third season). Because of their significance in the entertainment industry for several years, both sisters have been high-earners on "Forbes'" annual lists of celebrity values.
3. This particular episode of "Full House" is called "Cutting It Close". Speaking of cutting things, which director released "Edward Scissorhands", a movie about a man with scissors for hands, starring Johnny Depp in 1990?

Answer: Tim Burton

"Edward Scissorhands", released in 1990, was Tim Burton's fourth feature film and his first collaboration with Johnny Depp, with whom he would go on to make countless other films including "Ed Wood", "Sleepy Hollow", "Sweeney Todd", and "Alice in Wonderland".

This particular film starred Depp as Edward, an artificial man made with scissors for hands before his creator was able to finish his actual appendages. A Florida suburb soon came to discover this 'person' living at the end of their street after one of their neighbours and her family took him in.

He became a sensation along their street, but things soon turned for the worse. The movie also starred Dianne Wiest, Winona Ryder, and Anthony Michael Hall and made over $80,000,000 in the box office while garnering very positive reviews from critics.
4. Episode #23 happens to be the first episode of "Full House's" second season. Which of these other TV shows was renewed after its first season/series on the air?

Answer: Spaced

Of all the selections, the absurd British comedy, "Spaced", which was written by Edgar Wright and starred Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes, ended up lasting two full series from 1999 to 2001 in the UK producing a total of fourteen (hilarious) full episodes filled to the brim with pop culture references and uniquely witty humour. "Firefly", starring Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau, was a Joss Whedon show that aired on FOX in 2002 before cancellation after only fourteen episodes.

As is typical of Joss Whedon fare on FOX, fans never thought the show got a chance. "Birds of Prey" aired on the then-WB Network and starred Ashley Scott as Huntress, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman.

It lasted a single thirteen episode season. "Freaks and Geeks", one of the earlier shows directed and produced by Judd Apatow, was one of the starting vehicles for James Franco, Seth Rogan, and others.

A cult classic, it only aired eighteen episodes in its single season before cancellation on the NBC network.
5. "Cutting It Close", episode #23, first aired in 1988. Which of these events occurred in the same year?

Answer: The celebration of the Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea

1988 was the same year in which the Seoul Summer Games were held. This twenty-fourth Summer Olympiad was the second to have occurred in an Asian city to that date. It opened on September 17th and closed on the second day of October. "Full House" originally premiered in 1987 and this particular episode was the first of its season debuting on October 14.

In regards to the other events, the earliest was the debut of MTV in 1981 on August 1. The first video to air, notably, was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles. The wreckage of the Titanic was found by explorers on September 1, 1985 by the scientists aboard the Knorr. The Berlin Wall began its fall in November 1989.
6. In this particular episode of "Full House", Stephanie, played by Jodie Sweetin, cuts Jesse's (John Stamos') hair. Which of these famous people named Jesse is not fictional?

Answer: Jesse James

A Biblical name meaning 'God Exists', Jesse has been a name used for centuries though the only answer to be the real person is the infamous Jesse James, gang leader of the Wild West. Jesse and his brother, Frank, lived as outlaws and bank robbers until Jesse's death in 1882 (at the hands of a traitorous partner). His legacy has since depicted in numerous films.

Jesse Duke was Uncle Jesse from "The Dukes of Hazzard" played by Denver Pyle, Jesse St. James was a character played by Jonathan Groff on "Glee", and Jesse Pinkman was one of the main characters of "Breaking Bad" portrayed by Aaron Paul.
7. After a failed haircut attempt, Jesse goes to his regular hairdresser whose name is Alejandro. Which of these artists released a song by the name of "Alejandro"?

Answer: Lady Gaga

"Alejandro" released as the third single from her "The Fame Monster" album, the second disc of hers to be released and the first after her immensely popular "The Fame" debut. Giving nods to styles perfected by Madonna and ABBA, "Alejandro" wasn't supposed to be a single for Gaga- it replaced "Dance in the Dark" after she convinced her executives to feature it.

The song was popular with both critics and fans and it went platinum in five different countries appearing on countless end-of-year charts.

It hit number one on Billboard's US Hot Dance Club Songs chart and number five on the Hot 100. It also appeared on two other U.S. charts.
8. On the way home from the hairdresser's appointment, Jesse ends up crashing his motorcycle. Which of these people died tragically in a motorcycle accident?

Answer: T. E. Lawrence

T. E. Lawrence, also known as Lawrence of Arabia, passed away in 1935 after a fatal injury sustained while riding his early model motorcycle in the UK. Lawrence is long-remembered for his role in the Ottoman Empire during the trying times of the Arab Revolt. Peter O'Toole's portrayal of Lawrence in the 1962 film "Lawrence of Arabia" resulted in an Academy Award nomination for the actor (his first of many).

The film went on to win seven Oscars including Best Picture. James Dean, known as a Hollywood teen icon, passed away in a car crash at the age of twenty-four in 1955. Buddy Holly was one of the musicians to pass away in a plane crash in 1959, otherwise known as 'the day the music died'. John Jacob Astor IV was the richest passenger aboard the Titanic; he died when the ship sank.
9. Jesse may be a little careless on the road; he crashes after missing a rather obvious 'Severe Tire Damage' sign. Which of these bands, known for their rendition of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)", released a live album by the name "Severe Tire Damage"?

Answer: They Might Be Giants

Played to the tune of "Puttin' On the Ritz", "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" was first recorded in 1953 by The Four Lads, two of whom split off to create The Crew-Cuts with schoolmates. The original They Might Be Giants version appeared on their 1990 album, "Flood", and was re-released live on their 1998 live release, "Severe Tire Damage", which also included several improvised tracks. "Flood" was the band's third album and their first to hit Platinum in the United States.
10. After the crash, Jesse finds himself in the hospital with two broken arms. Which of these bones wouldn't he have broken if these were his only injuries?

Answer: Tibia

The tibia is a leg bone in the lower half of the extremity which links the knee to the ankle. The only other bone stretching down this part of the body is the fibula found on the back side of the leg's bottom half. The tibia is the thicker and stronger of the two.

The humerus is in the top half of the arm; it's the long bone connecting the shoulder and elbow and it contains your biceps and triceps. Both the radius and ulna are in the forearm. The former is on the inside while the latter is on the outer side.

Regardless of which bones in Jesse's arms broke, he'd need casts to allow the bone to set properly. I'm sure it caused a bit of conflict in the episode.
