Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Alphonse is the first name of actor Al Pacino.

Answer: False

Alfredo James Pacino was born on 25 April, 1940, in New York. This American actor is associated with playing gangsters but he won an Oscar for playing a blind, retired, Lieutenant Colonel, by the name of Frank Slade, in 'Scent of a Woman' (1992). My particular favourite of his was 'Insomnia' (2002) where detective Al Pacino (Will Dormer) chases villain Robin Williams (Walter Finch) in Alaska, under the relentless midnight sun, causing extreme tiredness and fatigue.

This is a remake of a 1997 Norwegian film with the same movie title.
2. Doris Day said, "The really frightening thing about middle age, is the knowledge that you'll grow out of it".

Answer: True

Doris Kappelhoff was born April 3, 1922. She appeared in many movies and recorded over 600 songs. She was awarded two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame because of her achievements in both acting and singing. She will be fondly remembered for singing 'Que Sera Sera' (whatever will be, will be) in the Alfred Hitchcock movie 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' (1956).

Another likable quote of hers is: "Wrinkles are hereditary. Parents get them from their children."
3. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has an autobiography called 'Memoirs of a Fruitcake'.

Answer: False

Good heavens, no! Chris Evans has an autobiography of that name. Gordon's autobiography is called 'Humble Pie'. 'Memoirs of a Fruitcake' covers the career of Chris from his early days at Virgin Radio, to superseding Sir Terry Wogan, on breakfast radio. To call multi-millionaire Chris, a fruitcake, is a bit harsh, even though he was born on April Fool's Day, 1966. Two other famous people born on April 1, are television presenter Phillip Schofield (1962) and singing sensation Susan Boyle (1961).
4. The first Queen of England to write and publish a book under her own name was Catherine Parr.

Answer: True

Catherine Parr was the sixth wife of Henry VIII and wrote 'Prayers or Meditations' under her own name. She was articulate in the languages of French and Italian. After the death of Henry VIII she had a second book published called 'Lamentations of a Sinner'.
5. The American rock group Blondie was formerly known as Angel and the Snake.

Answer: True

Debbie Harry was born July 1, 1945, in Miami, Florida, USA. She was the lead singer of Blondie, the band which changed its name from Angel and the Snake in 1975. Other famous people who were also born on July 1 were Olivia de Havilland (1916), Princess Diana Spencer (1961) and Pamela Anderson (1967).
6. Actors who contributed their voices to the animated movie of 'Madagascar' (2005) include Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Answer: True

Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock) tries to escape from Central Park Zoo with the intention of returning to the wild. His companions are Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith). Outrageous Sacha Baron Cohen provides the voice of King Julien, who sings "I Like to Move It".
7. A Bactrian camel has two humps on its back.

Answer: True

The two-humped Bactrian camel is native to the Gobi desert in Mongolia. If you turn the capital letter B of the Bactrian camel on its side, you will see two humps which is a good aid to one's memory. Dromedary camels number about ninety percent of the world population of camels. Turn the capital letter D of the Dromedary camel on its side, to reveal that a Dromedary camel has only one hump.
8. Former Liverpool footballer and soccer pundit Alan Hansen acquired a large scar on his forehead during a Scottish football match.

Answer: False

Alan Hansen was born in Alloa, Scotland on 13 June, 1955, and has been a regular soccer pundit on the BBC's 'Match of the Day'. He accidentally ran through a plate glass door which left an injury to his forehead, requiring 27 stitches. At a junior level, Alan represented Scotland at volleyball, and it was while he was running late for a volleyball match, he incurred his permanent injury. Alan played professional football for Patrick Thistle (1973-1977), Liverpool (1977-1988) and Internationally for Scotland (1979-1987).
9. Nurse, doctor and matron are all varieties of shark.

Answer: False

Nurse sharks feed on the bottom of the ocean and have noticeable barbels near their small mouths. They produce a sucking noise while feeding, which possibly is used to name the fish, as it resembles the sounds of a baby being nursed. If you thought there was a doctor and matron shark, you must be having a laugh, 'Carry On Nurse' (1959), 'Carry On Doctor' (1968) and 'Carry On Matron' (1972). Apologies in advance as I couldn't resist this type of question.
10. Goodluck Jonathan became the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2010.

Answer: True

Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation and Goodluck Jonathan became its 14th President with two-thirds of the vote, on 6 May, 2010. He replaced Umaru Yar'Adua who died at the aged of 58 years old.
