4. The original zombie movie directed by George Romero was "Night of the ______"?

Answer: Living Dead

In the 1968 film "Night of the Living Dead" a group of people hide from zombies in a farmhouse. The movie also features a sequel, "Dawn of the Living Dead" and a 1990 remake of the original. I have never seen these movies. I am too squeamish, so I am waiting for the children's pop up version.
5. What does the term 'Jihad' mean in the Muslim world?

Answer: Struggle

The 'Hadj' or 'Hajj' is the Muslim term for pilgrimage to Mecca, a journey that every Muslim must make once in their life. A 'Fatwa' is legal opinion concerning Islamic Law. The term for Judge is 'Qadi'. 'Jihad' means a struggle in the way of Allah, but has also taken on the meaning 'Holy War' to some.
6. What was the nickname of the famous statesman Stephen Douglas?

Answer: Little Giant

Nicknamed the "Little Giant" because of his short stature, but giant presence, Stephen Arnold Douglas (1813-1861) was a U.S. Representative and Senator who served the state of Illinois. He is famous for a series of debates against Abraham Lincoln for the Senate in Illinois in 1858. Douglas defeated Lincoln in that race, but two years later he was nominated for President and once again debated Lincoln.

This time Lincoln won. Douglas died of typhoid a year later.
7. In the 1984 movie "Starman", starring Jeff Bridges, how did the alien arrive on Earth?

Answer: He crash landed

Jeff Bridges starred in "Starman" as an alien whose spaceship crash lands in the United States. He arrives at a farm where he takes on the appearance of a woman's dead husband to enlist her help so that he can rendezvous with the mother ship. The movie also starred Karen Allen and Charles Martin Smith. (From the IMDB - although I have seen the movie more than five times.)
8. Which of the following is a major penalty in ice hockey?

Answer: Head butt

A major penalty is a foul in which the offender must sit in the penalty box for five minutes. Common examples include fighting and boarding. If a player attempts to head butt he is charged with a double minor and has to serve four minutes. However, if a player actually head butts an opposing player, it is a major penalty. And if the player is injured, then the player receives a major penalty and a game-misconduct and must leave the ice. High sticking, which is hitting an opposing player with your stick held up high, is a minor penalty that results in two minutes for the player who committed the foul. If the opposing player is injured, then the player committing the foul serves four minutes in the penalty box. Hooking is when a player uses his shaft to impede another player's progress. Hooking is also a minor penalty worth two minutes. Roughing occurs when players go at each other and push and shove and punch, but leave the gloves on.

It is a minor penalty where the offender has to serve two minutes.
9. Which of the following movies featured an actor who also served as a politician from California?

Answer: All of them

Clint Eastwood starred in the 1993 movie "A Perfect World", as a Texas Ranger who leads a manhunt searching for an escaped convict who kidnapped a young boy. Clint was elected mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California in 1986. Ronald Reagan starred in the 1951 movie "Storm Warning", a drama about the effects the Ku Klux Klan on a small town. Reagan was first elected to the office of Governor of California in 1966.

He was re-elected in 1970. He also served two terms as President of the United States (1981-1989). Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in the 1994 movie "True Lies", about a secret agent who thinks his wife is having an affair. Arnold was elected Governor of California in 2003.
10. You have made it to the end. You know, a good common bond quiz is a lot like Pecan Pie. You just can't do one. So tell me, now then, what is the common bond of this quiz?

Answer: Oxymorons

ONCE AGAIN, I have lead you to the finish and I am TERRIBLY PLEASED, for you see, the clues or in this case the answers are all OXYMORONS, most of which can be found on the net through a search engine. OXYMORONS are a figure of speech that consists of two words, that seem to have opposite meaning, but are used together.

The most common examples include JUMBO SHRIMP, PRETTY UGLY, AND GUEST HOST. A second form of OXYMORON is the humorous or sarcastic type in which it is the humorous context of the two words used together that makes it an oxymoron. Examples of this type include MILITARY INTELLIGENCE, MARITAL BLISS, and AIRLINE FOOD.

Many people enjoy playing a game in which they make up sarcastic oxymoron. NOW THEN, the examples from this quiz are (1) RECORDED LIVE (2) ACT NATURALLY (3) GOOD GRIEF (4) LIVING DEAD (5) HOLY WAR or Civil War (6) LITTLE GIANT (7) CRASH LANDED or CRASH LANDING (8) HEAD BUTT or if you please, you can use BUTT HEAD (9) The answers in question 9 fall under the humorous or sarcastic oxymorons.

They are all of the possible answers which are "TRUE LIES", A PERFECT WORLD"' AND "STORM WARNING" (an oxymoron better understood if you live in Texas). Well I gotta go, parting is such sweet sorrow.
