Richard Harris portrayed the great Wizard in the first two Harry Potter movies before losing his battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2002. He was also well known for his role as King Arthur in Camelot.
Replacing Harris as Dumbledore was an arduous task and the role was finally offered to Sir Michael Gambon who has gone on to portray the great Wizard in the rest of the movies to date.
