Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first song from their debut album, who sang the hit rock song "Runnin' With the Devil"?

Answer: Van Halen

First released by the hard rock band in 1978, "Runnin' With the Devil" became the band's second single (after "You Really Got Me"). One of five released singles from the album, it was also released on their first Greatest Hits album in the nineties. The song is one of the band's many trademark songs and it was originally performed by David Lee Roth when he was still a member of the band.

Although not as popular as "You Really Got Me", the song still appeared on the Billboard Charts and the album hit Diamond status in the 1990s, becoming one of the most successful hard rock albums ever released.
2. According to the title of Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel, what does the devil wear?

Answer: Prada

A New York Times bestseller, the 2003 novel "The Devil Wears Prada" became one of the more popular books of the year. While author Lauren Weisberger's novel was a success, her other stories were critically panned and didn't garner too many fans. "The Devil Wears Prada" was made into a film starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in 2006, and earned over $300,000,000 in the box office.

The book and film revolve around an assistant to a fashion magazine editor who constantly harasses her with menial tasks bordering on abuse.

The Devil Wears Prada is also the name of an American punk/metal band, though they claim not to have named themselves after the book.
3. Both the "South Park" TV show and movie depict the devil in a comical fashion. Which of these famous people is Satan depicted as being in a relationship with?

Answer: Saddam Hussein

The Satan from the TV show "South Park" and the film "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" may try to reign over Earth, but his home-life is plagued with melodramatic ordeals including his rocky relationship with Saddam Hussein. On one occasion, Saddam tries dating a nutritionist named Chris, but he and Saddam end up fighting the entire duration, killing each other in Hell many times. Saddam is eventually sent to live in Heaven (his ultimate Hell), while Satan deals with his own problems. While not affiliated with Satan necessarily, Princess Diana does appear during a song and dance number in Hell. Satan is also seen in a number of episodes, whether betting on a fight between himself and Jesus (winning the townspeople's money) or speaking with an adviser about how to take over the universe.
4. Elizabeth Hurley portrays Satan in what 2000 film also starring Brendan Fraser?

Answer: Bedazzled

"Bedazzled" was released in 2000, earning just over $80,000,000 in the box office and receiving mixed reviews from critics. The film centers around Brendan Fraser's character who says that he'd do anything to get this one girl to like him. Satan (played by Hurley) overhears this and decides to cut him a deal- he'll get seven wishes in order to get what he wants but, of course, there's a catch with each of these wishes.

The film was directed by actor/filmmaker Harold Ramis, who also wrote "Ghostbusters", "Caddyshack", and "Analyze This" over the years.
5. In which of these short stories from Stephen King's "Everything's Eventual" collection does the Devil play an important role?

Answer: The Man in the Black Suit

Although all four of these appeared as part of the fourteen stories in Stephen King's 2002 collection "Everything's Eventual", the second story, "The Man in the Black Suit", is the one to explicitly involve Satan. In the story, an old man recounts an event in which Satan appeared before him by the side of a river, and as his appearance changed into that of a demon he chased him through the forest and back home. Now, as an old man, he fears that the man in the black suit may one day return for him.

This story was one of four that appeared in the "New Yorker", though it was the earliest of the four, originally released in a 1994 issue.
6. Mark Pellegrino plays the role of Lucifer/Satan on which CW TV show?

Answer: Supernatural

Coincidentally, Pellegrino makes his first appearance in the season 5 episode entitled "Sympathy for the Devil". Satan takes a host body found in Pellegrino's character to commence the apocalypse which the main characters, Sam and Dean Winchester, are trying to combat the arrival of. Pellegrino plays a fairly likable Satan in the sense that he is visibly betrayed by God and the Angels during the plot of the show.

His aim is to purify the Earth as it has been stained by human development. Pellegrino has also appeared on "LOST" (as the enigmatic Jacob), "Dexter", and as a guest star on many other shows.
7. What song originally released by Fleetwood Mac states that someone is "trying to make a devil out of me"?

Answer: Black Magic Woman

Although the song is typically regarded as one of Carlos Santana's earliest hits, "Black Magic Woman" was originally a Fleetwood Mac single from the "English Rose" album. While Fleetwood Mac's version was out in 1968, Santana released his version in 1970 with Gregg Rolie on vocals.

This bluesy song states: "She's got me so blind I can't see/But she's a Black Magic Woman and/she's trying to make a devil out of me." Both Fleetwood Mac and Santana would go on to have extensive musical careers, with both making CDs more than thirty years after the debuts of their respective singles.
8. On the long-running TV show "The Simpsons", who is portrayed as the Devil in a "Treehouse of Horror" episode and many of the show's companion comic books?

Answer: Ned Flanders

In the fifth season episode "Treehouse of Horror IV", Flanders appears as Satan in the first vignette of the show "The Devil and Homer Simpson" in which Homer sells his soul to the Devil for a single donut. When placed on trial, it is discovered that Homer can't remain in Hell because he pledged his soul to Marge on their wedding day. Flanders tells Homer that he is the Devil because it's always the person you least expect. Flanders also appears as the Devil in both comic books and humour books pertaining to the series.

He has goat legs and devil horns, but his glasses, haircut, and signature mustache stay the same.
9. In what 1973 film is a girl (played by Linda Blair) possessed by a demon?

Answer: The Exorcist

"The Exorcist", since its release, has been regarded as one of the most frightening horror films of all time by critics and media outlets alike due to its subject matter. A young girl becomes possessed by the Devil and two priests set out to purge the demon within.

The film was a Best Picture nominee directed by William Friedkin. Though it was nominated for a total of ten awards, it only won two. "The Sting" took home Best Picture instead. The movie has since been followed by sequels, prequels, knock-offs, and spiritual homages, but none have been known to hold a candle to the original, often regarded with high praise from both horror fans and critics.
10. What video game series created by Blizzard Entertainment has spawned a series of novels and sold millions of copies to online players?

Answer: Diablo

"Diablo" (based on the Greek word 'Diabolos') was originally released on the PC in 1996 and a sequel followed in the coming years. This popular game and its sequel, playable offline or online through the Battle.net service (which revolutionized the online gaming industry), sold nearly twenty million copies in its first fifteen years on the market.

This made it one of the most popular early MMORPGS (Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) ever released. The games typically involve the player racing through different worlds defeating monsters and finishing quests in order to defeat Diablo at the end of the game in Hell. Blizzard also released the "Starcraft" and "Warcraft" series of games (including the ever-popular "World of Warcraft").
