This area established the name Knob Lick in 1876, taking its name from Knob Lick Mountain. A knob is a summit. Buffalo once came to the area for the salt in the local lick (or spring).

Answer: A small elevator

The famous Gateway Arch is visible all the way from Cahokia, Illinois. The address of the arch is 11. N. Fourth St., St. Louis, Missouri 63102. People mistakenly refer to the Gateway Arch as The Saint Louis Arch.

There is an information center at the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, along with a museum and bird observatory. Woodhenge, a circle of wooden posts, is visible from the mounds. Woodhenge is a mile away from the mounds themselves, but looks as if it is much closer.

Surrounding towns know about Knob Lick for its fire lookout tower. Farther north, there is an antique mall off of I-55 with a Paul Bunyan statue in the lawn. He is missing his ax.

You should visit the granite glades while in Knob Lick. The granite glades, preserved in a local conservation area, can be seen from the fire lookout tower.

It is unknown how the state got its nickname. The nickname appears on the state license plates. It is also called the Gateway State, the Ozark State, and Lead State, among others.

The Knob Lick Towersite has preserved 80 acres (or 32 hectares) of forest area. It can be viewed from the nearby granite glade or the fire watch tower. The preserved forest area was sold by the U.S. Forest Service.
