In 1853 the French Army introduced a 12 pounder field gun, named after Napoleon III, that revolutionized field artillery. America developed the howitzer very closley to the French version.
2. The battle cry for the Union army was "On to Virginia".

Answer: False

The Confederate capital was originally Montgomery, AL; but it was moved to Richmond, VA.
3. What date was the 1st Battle of Manassas?

Answer: July 21, 1861

People believed this would be the only battle of the war, they brought blankets and the families in the towns had picnics to watch the men fight.
4. This woman was a spy for the Confederate army, and was credited for the victory at Manassas.

Answer: Rose Greenhow

She was eventually sent to Europe to help the Confederate army. She drowned on her way back, because she had $2,000 (in coin) sewn into her dress.

Answer: USS Monitor v. CSS Virginia

The Union burned down the Norfolk, VA naval base, to prevent the Confederates from taking control of it. They didn't know that they hadn't completely destroyed all their Union naval ships. The USS Merrimac was taken by the Confederates and they repaired it, renaming it the CSS Virginia.

When John Wilkes Booth jumped from the area where he had shot Lincoln, onto the stage he actually broke his leg, but kept running.

The Confederates thought they had the Union cornered with the mines, but McClellan outwitted them and used their men.

The Confederates lost and McClellan could have attacked them and destroyed their army, but he chose to wait for a month and Lee then took control of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Answer: Battle of Antietam

After the Battle, the Union Army intercepted Lee's future plans, but once again McClelland waited for 18 hours.
10. What three things did Stuart take from General John Pope after the 2nd Battle of Manassas?

Answer: Pope's uniform, money, battle plans

Pope took Stuart's hat, which he loved greatly. Stuart agreed to return Pope's uniform if he gave him his hat back. Pope refused.
