Answer: Bucephalus

Bucephalus is nearly as famous as his rider. Alexander adored the horse and had a city in modern-day India named after it. Nobody, except Alexander, could ride it because it was afraid of its shadow.

2. Robert E. Lee is surely the most famous and admired Confederate general. What was the name of his favored horse?

Answer: Traveller

Traveller was originally named Jeff Davis, after the Confederate President, but Lee renamed it Traveller, because it took him wherever he wanted.

3. Napoleon's name is very well known and famous, but what was the name of his horse that was captured by the British?

Answer: Marengo

Marengo was the horse that accompanied Napoleon in his triumph at Austerlitz (1805), at the victory over over Prussia at Jena-Auerstedt (1806), the bloodbath at Wagram (1809) and the desperate fight at Waterloo (1815).

Answer: Kasztanka

Kasztanka means the chestnut color in the Polish language. Pilsudski rode it during World War 1 and the subsequent war with the Soviet Union, ending in a stunning Polish victory.

Jackson had bought Little Sorrel as a birthday present for his wife, but he finally took it for himself. He rode it at 1st Manassas, Shenandoah Valley, 2nd Manassas, Antietam (Sharpsburg), Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville.

Babieca means 'stupid' in Spanish! The name was given to the horse because El Cid's godfather considered its purchase a poor judgment on his part.

Answer: Cincinnati

Cincinnatti was given to Grant as present by an admirer. He rode the horse in all of his campaigns, from Cairo to the Confederate surrender at Appomattox.

8. Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. What was the name of his favorite horse?

Answer: Copenhagen

Wellington rode Copenhagen at Waterloo, thus making the horse immortal. In the great Wellington Statue at Aldershot, the horse is depicted with its rider.

9. Peter the Great is a great hero and Tsar of Russia, but what was the name of his favorite horse?

Answer: Lisette

Peter bought the horse in a blacksmith shop in Riga and rode it during the war with Sweden. It is said that the name was given in honor of one of the Tsar's mistresses.

10. The legend of King Arthur is perhaps the most famous in Celtic mythology. What was the name of the legendary king's favourite horse?

Answer: Llamrei

According to the Welsh tale "Culhwch and Olwen", Llamrei was a mare owned by the king. The "Stone of Arthur's Horse" in Flintshire in north-east Wales was made after it.
