Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We know about Frankenberry, Count Chocula and Boo Berry. What was the name of the cereal endorsed by a werewolf?

Answer: Fruit Brute

Sadly, I haven't seen it in a while. Don't know why...if we can eat stuff endorsed by a ghost, a manmade creature and a vampire, why not a werewolf?!
2. What cartoon character was the spokesman for Super Sugar Crisps?

Answer: Sugar Bear

Remember the bear who sang 'Can't get enough of Super Sugar Crisps'...)? Incidentally, the cereal changed over to 'Super Golden Crisps' as parents became concerned over the overstimulation of their children. Dig'em the Frog sold Sugar Smacks (now called Honey Smacks). Linus was on the front of Crispy Critters Cereal and Harry Hippo sold Quaker Oats Punch Crunch.

Coming to a town near you ...

8. What bubble gum was named after both a homemade musical instrument and a weapon?

Answer: Bazooka

Bazooka Gum was named after the musical instrument created by 1930s entertainer Bob Burns from two gas pipes and a funnel. This contraption in turn gave its name to the armor-piercing device used during World War II. Incidentally, both Dubba Bubble and Bazooka contained comic strips in each package. (The Dubba Bubba Twins began in 1930 and Bazooka Joe in 1953).

Answer: Jean LaFoote

Jean LaFoote, the barefoot pirate, came out with Cinnamon Crunch Cereal. It wasn't that bad.

12. What was the name of the astronaut that competed with Ken and G.I. Joe as the pre-eminent male doll of the 60's?

Answer: Maj. Matt Mason

Answer: True

Made by Adams candy company, the gum came in strawberry and chocolate.
14. 'Candy Cigarettes' really existed.

Answer: True

Oh, yeah ... once you get past the white powdered sugar coating and that funny red tip, there was either candy or bubble gum underneath, depending on the maker. I actually found a box recently, now labeled 'Candy Stix'... still with the red cigarette tip. Guess old habits die hard.

Artificially sweetened with saccharin and some secret ingredient called Sucaryl. I tried it once...it was awful.

Created by Richard Fenton Outcault, Buster Brown shoes were introduced two years later at the St. Louis World's Fair. The comic strip was as popular as Little Orphan Annie in its day.
