Answer: Romulus Killed Remus

They both started building on different hills, and when Remus jumped over Romulus's wall the latter killed him. The Roman era begins from the founding of the city on 21 April 753 BC.
2. Before the Roman Republic got started seven kings ruled Rome. How did they usually become king?

Answer: They were elected

Romulus was the first king of Rome and the next four sucessors were all elected to the position. The attempt by the last two king to institute a hereditary monarchy resulted in a long-lasting Roman hatred of kings and resulted in the formation of the republic.
