3. 1962. "Spacewar" was the first of its kind of what?

Answer: Computer game

Created by Steve "Slug" Russell, who was an employee of MIT, it took over 200 man hours to write the first version. We have definitely come a long way since then!
4. 1963. John George Kemeny and Tom Kurtzas devised BASIC. What did BASIC stand for?

Answer: Beginners' Allpurpose Symbolic Instruction Code

Both men worked at Dartmouth College and devised this program as a "easy" learning buffer for undergraduates from all colleges prior to them attempting to learn programs like FORTRAN.
5. 1964. Originally named "Chemgrass". this product is now known under a different title since it was used at the "Astrodome".

Answer: Astroturf

Monsanto employees James M. Farr and Robert T. Wright invented this synthetic grass in '64. Though great from the mowing point of view, it takes a lot of water to make it playable for the many sporting fields it is laid on.
6. 1965. James Russell invented a storage system that did not achieve widespread recognition till many years later. What was it?

Answer: Compact disc

James was granted 22 patents for his system, but sadly for him, it did not become popular until being massed-produced by the Philips Corporation in the 1980s.
7. 1966. Police officers worldwide owe Stephanie Kwolek a big favor for inventing this. Which is it?

Answer: Calculator

Texas Instrument Company devised "Cal Tech" in 1967 and although not released in that year, it was later released by Canon as the "Canon Pocket-tronic" in 1970. It was a four function system with output printed on paper tape. It was the first true hand held calculator later to be more commonly known as a "pocket" calculator because of its ability to be transported around in your pocket.
9. 1968. A popular board game of the 1960's was Battling ____?

Answer: Tops

Released by what was eventually to become Mattel, "Battling Tops" changed its name to "Battling Spaceships" in 1977 to cash in on the Star Wars craze. It was then discontinued, but it has returned to the market. A good family game.
10. 1969. Young ones, prepare yourself for a scare. What did ARPA in the phrase ARPAnet stand for?

Answer: Advanced Research Project Agency

ARPAnet was a branch of the CIA's military division that developed a top secret system that allowed military information to be conveyed via computer during the Cold War. This was the initial concept behind the last 3 letters of the phrase, which we now know as the internet!
