Question 1 of 10
1. I don't remember this man, but I do know his legend lives on. I have even been to his house. It is huge. He must have been a king or something. It is a shame that he had to die so young. Or did he? I think I saw him last night at Wal-Mart purchasing a Miley Cyrus CD. Who died on August 16, 1977? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. In 1981 I was still just a young lad of six, so I didn't quite understand the significance of a woman being appointed to the Supreme Court. This must have been quite a big deal because I remember learning about her in American History class in high school. Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. I guess 1981 was a good year. A little television station called MTV debuted and although they haven't actually played music in many years, the 1980's and 1990's were a great time to be growing up for music video lovers of all ages. I wish I could remember the name of the first video they ever played. Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. I remember this day clearly. It was about 9:00pm and I was just getting home from playing racquetball. I was a sophomore in High School. I walk in the house and on the television, I can see the U.S. military launching a huge offensive against Iraq. This would be the first of two times in my lifetime that this would happen. What year was this? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. In 1992 there was a controversial court case involving this man. He was beaten on camera by several police officers, yet the court system found the officers "not guilty." This sparked many riots that resulted in heavy monetary damages to the area of South Los Angeles. Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. This event happened in 1993. Near the town of Waco, Texas, this group thought it would be a good idea to try to face the U.S. government in a stand-off. When the government had enough, these did what they thought was obviously the correct thing to do. They burned their compound to the ground and killed themselves off. Who were these people? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. I think everybody remembers Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. They also defied the government and in the process blew up a building and killed many people, including a lot of children in a day care center. In what city and state did this happen? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. This man avoided being kicked out of office in 1999. I guess that despite the stains on the dress, people truly believed that he "did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. 1999 saw one of the worst school killings in U.S. history. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold took several weapons into their high school and began shooting. At the end of the day 15 people were dead, including the perpetrators. At what high school did this take place? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Our last is a well known event. On September 11, 2001, two highjacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center. Thousands were killed and both towers collapsed. There were actually four planes highjacked that day. Can you remember where the other two planes crashed? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Elvis Presley

It is a shame that such a legend has his name misspelled on his tombstone. The correct spelling of his middle name is "Aron", but the tombstone reads "Aaron".
2. In 1981 I was still just a young lad of six, so I didn't quite understand the significance of a woman being appointed to the Supreme Court. This must have been quite a big deal because I remember learning about her in American History class in high school.

Answer: Sandra Day O'Connor

Justice O'Connor originally wanted to join the family business and become a cattle farmer. Holy cow!
3. I guess 1981 was a good year. A little television station called MTV debuted and although they haven't actually played music in many years, the 1980's and 1990's were a great time to be growing up for music video lovers of all ages. I wish I could remember the name of the first video they ever played.

Answer: "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles

I always wondered how many people were actually watching a television station that they didn't even know existed and saw this first ever video.

Answer: 1991

This would be known as Operation Desert Storm and many people believe we should not have stopped. They believe we should have ended the Iraqi regime then and there and avoided 20 more years of trouble from that country. I guess hindsight is 20/20.
5. In 1992 there was a controversial court case involving this man. He was beaten on camera by several police officers, yet the court system found the officers "not guilty." This sparked many riots that resulted in heavy monetary damages to the area of South Los Angeles.

Answer: Rodney King

I didn't understand at the time nor do I now as an adult understand why people would think destroying their own neighborhoods is a good way to protest a government decision.
6. This event happened in 1993. Near the town of Waco, Texas, this group thought it would be a good idea to try to face the U.S. government in a stand-off. When the government had enough, these did what they thought was obviously the correct thing to do. They burned their compound to the ground and killed themselves off. Who were these people?

Answer: The Branch Davidians

I was a senior in high school when this happened. I had already joined the Army on delayed entry.
7. I think everybody remembers Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. They also defied the government and in the process blew up a building and killed many people, including a lot of children in a day care center. In what city and state did this happen?

Answer: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

At the time, this was considered to be the worst act of terrorism ever committed on American soil. This was, of course, exceeded in 2001 by the attacks on the World Trade Center.
8. This man avoided being kicked out of office in 1999. I guess that despite the stains on the dress, people truly believed that he "did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky."

Answer: Bill Clinton

What amazed me most about this man who had what was one of the most publicized cases of adultery in history, is that his wife, Hillary, didn't leave him when it was all said and done.
9. 1999 saw one of the worst school killings in U.S. history. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold took several weapons into their high school and began shooting. At the end of the day 15 people were dead, including the perpetrators. At what high school did this take place?

Answer: Columbine High School

Several years after this event, there was a critically acclaimed documentary made called "Bowling for Columbine".
10. Our last is a well known event. On September 11, 2001, two highjacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center. Thousands were killed and both towers collapsed. There were actually four planes highjacked that day. Can you remember where the other two planes crashed?

Answer: The Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania

I was a soldier with the 101st Airborne when this happened. I was in Afghanistan less than seven days later looking for the mastermind behind this attack, Osama Bin Laden.
