Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which of these games does the number 6 have a special significance?

Answer: Trouble

'Trouble' is a board game for one to four players. Each member has four pegs with a color (red, green, blue, yellow). In the middle of a board is a dice container with a numbered dice. Each player takes turns popping the container until they hit number 6, then the player pops the dice again and moves their peg as many times as the number says. Whoever runs out of pegs first is the winner. Trouble was invented by the Kohner brothers in 1965.

It was marketed by Milton Bradley.
2. Which game only uses the colors red and yellow (or red and black)?

Answer: Connect Four

'Connect Four' is a two-player game that resembles a grid with six rows and seven columns. The object of the game is to move your red or yellow checker into one of the grids and whoever can get four in a row wins (across, down or horizontally). The game was launched in 1974 and marketed by Milton Bradley.
3. Which of these popular 1980s games was originally called the "Magic Cube"?

Answer: Rubik's Cube

'Rubik's Cube' was a very popular puzzle game in the 1980s. It was invented by a Hungarian professor named Ernő Rubik. The game is a large cube with nine blocks on each side, identified by six colors of stickers (red, green, white, yellow, orange and blue). Players need to solve the puzzle by matching every color in the same side of the cube. 'Rubik's Cube' was widely regarded as the most popular toy ever. By 2009, there were over 350 million cubes sold.
4. In the game "Hungry Hungry Hippos", which one is the purple hippo?

Answer: Lizzie Hippo

'Hungry Hungry Hippos' allows two to four players to get their hippo to eat marbles on the board. Whoever ends up with the most marbles is the winner. The game was introduced in 1982 and marketed by Hasbro.
5. How many wooden blocks are in a game of "Jenga"?

Answer: 54

'Jenga' was invented by Leslie Scott based on a game her family played when she was young. The object is to build a tower of blocks and each player must remove a block without knocking it over. Whoever knocks the blocks over is the loser.
6. Fill in this famous quote "You sunk my ___________".

Answer: Battleship

'Battleship' is a board game that requires two players. They put a number of ships on a grid and both players guess a letter and number. If the other player has a ship on that particular grid, it is a hit. If not, it is a miss. If a player has four ship pieces on a grid and the other player guesses each of them correctly, they sunk the other player's battleship.
7. Which of these games involves cheese?

Answer: Mouse Trap

'Mouse Trap' is marketed by Ideal Toys. The object is for two to four players to compete against each other to catch a mouse and put it in a trap.
8. Which game is known to have this quote: "Take out his spare ribs for $100."?

Answer: Operation

'Operation' is a battery-operated game in which two or more players compete to take parts of a body out for money. If a player touches the metal sides of the part they remove, a buzzer on the patient's nose goes red and the player loses a turn. Whichever player with the most money wins.
9. This game involves a wide selection of soldiers and other military officials. Which one is it?

Answer: Stratego

'Stratego' has two players competing to capture each other's pieces. One side is red and the other is blue. If a stronger piece winds up on a weaker piece's spot, the weaker piece needs to be removed. The ranks range from marshal to flag (highest to lowest).
10. Which of these games was known as the game of escape?

Answer: Dungeon Dice

In the game 'Dungeon Dice' the player(s) pretend they are locked in a dungeon and try to escape using dice. The player uses the dice to get around the guards and whoever comes up with six dice and knocks out six guards is the winner.
