Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Much of this chapter (and the campaign) makes use of Harrowing, which utilizes which of these?

Answer: Cards

In an early mystical turn, players are introduced to Harrow Cards by Zellara, a woman who invites the heroes of the story to her Korvosan house with the insistence that she has the same goals as they do in regards to a man named Gaedren Lamm. The Harrow Deck consists of fifty-four cards, each one falling into one of six suits attributed to each of the player characters' ability scores, and also into one of nine alignments.

The readings of these cards can often tie directly into events in the past, present, and future of the heroes in the campaign.
2. Gaedren Lamm's fishery is home to a number of children, referred to by which collective name?

Answer: The Lambs

The heroes of the story, already connected to Gaedren in their own ways, will likely know all about Gaedren's Lambs-- children who steal and pick pockets and live in the old fishery and hideout on the waterfront. Facing them is a possibility when his fishery is investigated on Zellara's behalf, though visitors will also, likely run into other problems there from gangsters to sharks, alligators to spiders. Of course, Gaedren himself can also be found in his lair, guarding secrets of his own.
3. After gaining trust in the heroes, Zellara reveals that she is, actually, dead.

Answer: True

Zellara lies to the heroes early on, using them to seek revenge on Gaedren for the death of herself and her son, and when they locate her Harrow deck at his lair in an old fishery, she'll reveal to them...if they don't discover it themselves...that she was dead from the get-go, inhabiting her house and the deck.

She continues to assist the heroes, one of whom will likely carry the deck through the campaign, because they are destined for greater things.
4. Queen Ileosa will give the heroes positions on the Korvosan Guard when which of these is returned to her?

Answer: Brooch

The heroes, searching through Gaedren's personal effects in the old fishery, will quickly find an old brooch amongst the belongings there. A quick investigation will lead them to discover that it belongs to none other than Queen Ileosa who, coincidentally, takes a seat at the throne during the early events of the chapter when her husband, King Eodred II, passes away.

The town soon finds itself in an uproar over this transfer of power, but Queen Ileosa seems thrilled to see her brooch returned. She's thrilled enough to ask the heroes to join the ranks of the Korvosan Guard.

After all, the city is in turmoil.
5. Which of these locations is home to the Korvosan Guard?

Answer: Citadel Volshyenek

Found in the south of the city, Citadel Volshyenek becomes the de facto home of the heroes once they join the Korvosan Guard and begin taking missions on the city's behalf. While there, the heroes are placed under the leadership of Field Marshal Cressida Kroft who, already drained by the peoples' outrage towards the new monarch, is at her wit's end, and with the Guard stretched thin, there are smaller, alternate jobs that need tending to.
6. An investigation into All the World's Meat reveals that the butchery is serving which of these?

Answer: People

The first job given to the heroes upon arriving at Citadel Volshyenek sends them to a butchery known as All the World's Meat. What they can later discover is that Sergeant Verik Vancaskerkin has been running a butchery dedicated to serving longpig. As is later found out, when they're shutting the place down, Verik has ties to other aristocratic families in Korvosa, and the heroes' interference in the plans at the butchery will put them under the watchful eye of the Arkonas, who feature in a later chapter of the campaign in a major way.
7. A visit to Eel's End could result in a round of what dangerous game played amongst thieves?

Answer: Knivesies

After proving themselves at the butchery, the heroes are asked by Kroft and mercenary Vencarlo Orisini to look into a concern at Eel's End, home of the criminal Devargo Barvasi, at the end of The Narrows in Old Korvosa. What they find there is potentially concerning; what was originally supposed to be a hunt for information about the local economy and uprising could end up being a dangerous game of Knivesies against the Spider King's henchmen. Whether he lives or dies after the information is obtained is of little consequence; he's a bad man.
8. Who is blamed for the death of King Eodred II?

Answer: Trinia

After rumours emerge that Queen Ileosa killed her husband to claim the throne, blame is instead shifted to a young woman named Trinia Sabor who was hired to make a portrait of the late king before his death. What results is the heroes being sent on behalf of the Korvosan guard to bring her in to await punishment, and this could lead to a rooftop chase through the Shingles. Should she be captured (or not, even), heads are certain to roll at the executioner's hands.
9. A trip to The Dead Warrens must be made to retrieve Thousand Bones' son. Of what tribe is Thousand Bones a part?

Answer: Shoanti

Hailing from the Cinderlands, Thousand Bones comes to Cressida Kroft to reestablish peace talks between his people and Korvosa, but before this can begin his son's corpse must be retrieved from the Dead Warrens-- the graveyard in the south end of Korvosa.

When the heroes descend into this area, they'll find that his son, Gaekhen, is actually being used by a necromancer apprentice. The apprentice's master actually has much worse prospects that come to play in a later chapter of the campaign. The Shoanti make a big reappearance later on as well.
10. The end of the chapter marks the first appearance of what Korvosan vigilante hero?

Answer: Blackjack

Trinia's trial concludes whether she's captured or not, and in a ceremony held in front of Castle Korvosa, the Queen announces Trinia's beheading to an eager crowd. While the heroes are unable to save her (or her replacement), the folk hero Blackjack (actually Vencarlo Orisini in disguise, as they later discover) swoops in and saves the victim of the wrongful execution before they can be killed.

Elsewhere, a ship starts floating to Korvosa's shores, bringing a new danger.
