Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What name does Timon call adult Simba the first time he pounces on him?

Answer: Hairball

Just after the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" ends, Simba "pounces" on Timon, who responds with: "You big hairball! What is it with you lately...?"
2. In the "Madness of King Scar" scene, what does Scar say that he loathes?

Answer: Violence

After Nala defiantly "claws" him, Scar says angrily, "You know how I LOATHE violence!"
3. Cub Nala's line from the movie version of "The Lion King", "It better not be anyplace dumb!" was changed in the musical to "It better not be anyplace..." what?

Answer: Lame

This was one of a few odd and minuscule changes to the script that occurred as it was transposed from film to stage, as "dumb" seems to work just as fine in the context of the scene.
4. According to the lyrics of "Shadowland," what has "broken?"

Answer: Ground

During Nala's chilling song about how she must leave the Pride Lands, she sings: "The river's dry... the ground has broken... Now I must go... I must go".
5. What line, which was removed from "The Lion King's" film script, does Zazu say to Simba as he is about to ascend Pride Rock?

Answer: "Your Majesty"

Zazu's final words in the musical are "Your Majesty" as Simba begins to scale Pride Rock after defeating Scar. Zazu was also supposed to say this in the film as well, but it was edited out because the producers didn't want it to detract from the moment.
6. During the "I Just Can't Wait to be King" scene, Zazu refers to the theater curtain as what household object?

Answer: Shower curtain

Zazu will refer to the colorful, African art-deco curtain used during this scene as a "shower curtain" from one of many different stores depending on where the show is playing. In New York, for instance, he may say "The Guggenheim" where in Seattle he would either say "Pier 1 (Imports)" or "Ikea." This line gives the actors a chance to improvise and always draws a big laugh from the audience.
7. Which of the following events that occur in "The Lion King" movie does not occur in the musical?

Answer: Zazu sings "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts"

Zazu's "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" song is missing from the stage musical, presumably because Disney was not able to secure the rights for its use. The script was changed to enable Scar to begin lamenting on his "emptiness" he feels as king.
8. According to the lyrics of "They Live in You," sung by Mufasa, in which of the following places would Simba NOT be able to find the "great kings of the past"?

Answer: In every river

Mufasa sings to his son during this poignant scene not as the king but as a father:

"They live in you
They live in me
They're watching over
everything we see

In every creature
In every star
In your reflection
They live in you."
9. What reason does Zazu give for Scar's continual disagreement with Mufasa?

Answer: Dropped on his head as a cub

As Mufasa and Zazu walk offstage during the first scene, Zazu comments, "I think he was dropped on his head as a cub, that's where all the trouble began."
10. After Simba gets into an argument with Timon and Pumbaa about where to stay in the jungle, he tells them that they're "Turning into a couple of old..." what?

Answer: Farts

Some viewers feel that "The Lion King" takes flatulence jokes a bit too far, and this line is a clear example of that.
