Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
"MJ the Musical" opened with "Beat It" and a medley of the early Jackson Five songs, "The Love You Save/I Want You Back/ABC". The musical told the story of Michael Jackson's 1992 "Dangerous" Tour. The musical began with his days growing up with his brothers in Gary, Indiana and his mother, Katherine, and Joseph, his father. Midway through the first half, "Stranger In Moscow" was sung as allegations about Michael were being spoken about in the press. As Michael was stressing about the tour, there was a flash back to teenage Michael singing "You Can't Win" from his first musical, "The Wiz". His mother tried to ease his stress, singing "Keep The Faith" to cheer him up. A medley of "Earth Song" and "They Don't Care About Us" led to the finale of the first session with "Wanna Be Startin' Something" and "Beat It" from his "Thriller" album.
Act 2 of "MJ the Musical" began with "Smooth Criminal" and Michael's dad, Joseph, singing the O'Jays classic "For The Love Of Money". As the tour preparations were building, Michael wanted to increase the special effects and the budget, much to the objection of his tour manager. "Jam" and "Human Nature" were highlights early in the act. Act II culminated with three of Michael Jackson's biggest hits. The title track for his "Bad" album, followed by an extended version of "Thriller" with incredible special effects, led to the finale. "Man In The Mirror" was the closing song of the set prior to the end credits. As the cast was celebrated the musical ended with a medley reprise of "Jam/Black And White/Wanna Be Startin' Something".
"Ben" was from Michael's first solo album and "Never Can Say Goodbye" was an early Jackson Five track that was not in the musical. "Ease On Down The Road" was also from "The Wiz" but they went with "You Can't Win". "Rock With You" appeared on Michael's solo album "Off The Wall". Two of Michael Jackson's duet with his brother Jermaine ("Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming") and sister Janet ("Scream") were also left out of the production. "Control" was a Janet Jackson solo hit.
