Two explorers find themselves stuck in Venus's atmosphere in what Niven describes as a "searing black calm". "Becalmed in Hell" tells how they manage to escape. "Becalmed in Hell" was first published in 1965.
3. The Left Hand of Darkness

Answer: Ursula K. Le Guin

Le Guin published "The Left Hand of Darkness" in 1969. Set on the planet Gethen ("Winter"), the story examines questions of gender, survival in harsh climates, and political absolutisim.
