In the back of the book, a blattig fish is described as a "freshwater fish often growing to a length of two to three feet, voraciously carnivorous, known to attack and devour living animals".

The egg pouch is a satiny scarlet bag attached to a 17 1/2 inch thong so Kale can wear it around her neck.
