Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rosie lives in Soho, London, with her beloved Aunty Maggie and Uncle Bert. What sort of business do they run?

Answer: Cafe

The books are set in the 1950s with a cast of characters as colourful as the Soho area in which they live.
Maggie and Bert's cafe is always busy and Rosie often 'helps' even though she is only allowed to carry cold drinks and things that won't spill easily!
2. Before Rosie is really aware that Cassandra is her real mother, how does she think of her?

Answer: The Perfumed Lady

Cassandra is an alcoholic and often earns money by working as a prostitute. She left Rosie with Maggie and Bert when she was just a baby.
Every so often Cassandra turns up at the cafe, usually the worse for wear, to borrow money, hide out from her creditors, and see Rosie.
3. Who is the lawyer who lives next door to Rosie?

Answer: Sharkey Finn

Uncle Bert always says that Sharkey could "hide behind a corkscrew" but he is a good friend to Rosie and her family when they need legal advice.
4. Paulette is a great friend of Rosie's. When we first meet her, she is working as a prostitute, but she gets a 'real job' and leaves the seedy life behind her. Where does she go to work?

Answer: Lyon's Corner House

Sharkey, Maggie and Bert help to 'see off' Paulette's pimp and this gives her a chance to get her life back together.
She gets a job in the Lyon's Corner House at Marble Arch and never looks back.
5. When Paulette and Madame Zelda redecorate, what theme do they give their living room?

Answer: Jungle

They decorate the room as a jungle, complete with vines, stuffed animals, and murals on the walls. Rosie is delighted to be allowed to help them with the decorating.
6. Who is the local 'mobster' who runs all the crime and clubs in the area? He is an old friend of Uncle Berts.

Answer: Maltese Joe

Maltese Joe and Uncle Bert have been friends for years. It was Joe who kept the cafe supplied with food during the war when rationing made life hard.
7. Rosie meets her aristocratic Great Aunt Dodie for the first time when she is on holiday at Weston Super Mare. What car does Dodie drive?

Answer: Lagonda

Great Aunt Dodie is eccentric and Rosie loves her.
She drives a convertible silver Lagonda very fast, and does exactly as she pleases most of the time.
8. Madame Zelda's ex-husband turns up to cause trouble for Rosie and her Aunt and Uncle. What is his name?

Answer: Charlie Fluck

Charlie is employed by 'vile Godfrey' to try and blackmail Cassandra into signing over her shares.
Cassandra laughs in his face and tells him she doesn't care who knows about Rosie so to go ahead and tell whom he likes.
9. Rosie's step-grandfather is a wicked man who has Rosie kidnapped. What is his name?

Answer: Godfrey

"Vile Godfrey" as Aunt Dodie calls him is a right rotter. He wants to force Cassandra to hand over her shares in the family business, so he has Rosie kidnapped.
When the kidnapping case comes to court, Godfrey claims to be Rosie's birth father, but he forgot to check the vital fact of her date of birth! He ends up being sent to jail.
10. Who is widely believed to be Rosie's birth father?

Answer: TC

"Everyone knows" that Rosie's dad is actually TC, the local neighbourhood policeman, but nobody actually says so.
TC is married and his wife is ill, so people just quietly ignore Rosie's parentage, although TC watches out for her as much as he can.
