Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did Jeanine spend her Spring Break during her senior year at college?

Answer: Key West

Jeanine was in her senior year at the University of Florida. She and her friends decided to make their last Spring Break special, so they went to the beautiful Key West. Everyone joked that they were going to get "Party till you drop, man!" tattoos. After Jeanine met Peter, she stayed behind and didn't return to school.
2. What did Jeanine and her friends eat for lunch during their last day of Spring Break?

Answer: Jell-O shots

Jeanine recalled the lunch and viewed it as the beginning of a huge chain of events. She and her friends took Jell-O shots for lunch and all got intoxicated. Later that night she witnessed her boyfriend Mike and her friend Maureen having an affair and decided to steal Mike's car. Jeanine accidentally killed a man while swerving to avoid a dog.

A police officer arrived, realized what had happened, and allowed her to run away. She ended up marrying him.
3. What was the name of the serial killer in the story?

Answer: The Jump Killer

While in Key West, Jeanine heard about a serial killer who would abduct woman at night. One thing was always consistent about the abductions: he always used a parachute cord to tie them up. When Jeanine learned about him, no bodies had been found, but people were still using the term "serial killer". Later in the story Jeanine, as Nina, defended a man people claimed was the real killer.
4. While at a funeral, an FBI agent approached Jeanine and warned her about her husband. He told her to read specific articles from the Boston Globe from years before. What did they reveal?

Answer: Peter's former wife was murdered

The FBI agent, Theodore Murphy, warned Jeanine that she needed to be careful. He gave her his business card with specific dates written on the back of it, as well as "You're not safe. I can help. Call me." The articles described how Peter's former wife had been murdered. Amanda Fournier had been "accidentally" killed in a robbery, and Peter was questioned. Jeanine was shocked to see how much Amanda looked like her.
5. How did Jeanine manage to originally escape the serial killer?

Answer: She threw up on him

Jeanine began hitchhiking to escape her drug-dealing, murderous husband. On the way she was picked up by a kind British man with a Jack Russell terrier. He asked her to drive and after only a few minutes he revealed himself for who he really was: the Jump Killer. Jeanine grew nauseous and tried to lean out the window, but then thought to herself, "What do I have to lose?" and threw up on him.

She quickly undid his seatbelt and crashed into a telephone pole, which sent the car spiraling out of control.

They fell into a body of water and Jeanine successfully escaped.
6. What did Nina hate about Charlie?

Answer: He drank too much

When Nina met Charlie, he was working on fixing his house, wearing only jeans. He opened up a can of beer and drank, even though it was in the morning. From her first impression of him, she assumed that he was a lazy drunk. However, once she reviewed the case file of their client, she realized he had done everything he could.

She also noticed his Harvard law degree hanging on his wall. When they went to work Charlie was wearing a nice suit as well. Nina thought Charlie was smart, handsome, and a good lawyer, she just wished he didn't drink so much.
7. Who was the first person Nina told her secret to?

Answer: Charlie

Nina stayed at a hotel in Key West and one night an intruder entered her room. She fought back, but was completely terrified. She had a taxi drive her to see Charlie. Nina told him about her past and how she knew that Justin Harris couldn't possibly be the Jump Killer. Charlie was completely blown away but he was very supportive.
8. What was the key piece of evidence that set Justin Harris free?

Answer: A newspaper clipping

Justin Harris was literally about to be given injections to stop his heartbeat before the governor put a stop to it. He had been accused of being the Jump Killer, but Nina knew that wasn't the truth because she had met the real killer. Due to Charlie and Nina's hard work, Harris' life was saved.

They managed to convince his ex-fiancé to admit that Harris was with her the day the victim was murdered. She provided a newspaper clipping that showed her and Harris at a sea aquarium.
9. What shocking thing did Peter reveal to Nina?

Answer: He was the one who killed the man she hit

Peter was the cop who pulled her over the night she killed a man named Ramon Pena. She hit the man and always thought that she killed him. But Peter finally told her the truth: Pena was an informant who was about to tell everyone about Peter's crooked dealings. Peter shot the informant three times and since Nina was drunk and driving in the triple digits, she had no idea and thought that she killed him. Peter never let her examine the body because she would have seen that Pena had been shot.
10. What was Peter doing as he was torturing Nina?

Answer: Laughing

The demented man came to Nina's house to kill her slowly. He had killed his first wife and had tried to get Nina murdered as well, 17 years earlier. Peter even killed his third wife and their two sons. Peter forced Nina to the bathtub and forced her head under over and over again, almost drowning her every time.

When the water left Nina's ears, she heard Peter laugh happily like what was happening was the funniest thing he'd ever seen. He admitted he took enjoyment from torturing her.
