Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On a normal night, all seems calm until the air is filled with the shrieks and screams of black spirits. What is the name of the demon one angel questions but later sets free?

Answer: Despair

It is a normal Tuesday night when Bacon's Corner is attacked by several demons that unleash a spiritual war on the town between them and the host of heaven.

Despair comes out of the forest running from an angel that is as bright as the sun. He is injured in the fight but is later set free by the angel after the angel gets his name. Despair is free to harass his victims for the time being, but the angels note after Despair's release that the fight has just begun.
2. Sally Roe is fleeing for her life! A dead body is left behind and she has been wounded. She also has a ring and a large amount of cash. What happened to Sally?

Answer: an unknown lady tried to murder her

An assassin from a Satanist group is hired to kill Sally in her goat shed. Sally is lucky enough to overpower her attacker but she flees for her life because she does not know who or what is after her. She takes a gold ring from the dead body of the assassin that she eventually uses to try to figure out her would-be killers.

She also has a huge amount of cash that was with the assassin as a payment for her murder. Sally takes off in her blue pickup truck and disguises herself. She faces spirits of Despair, Depression, Suicide, and Insanity, but angels keep her from losing her life.
3. Tom is a school master at the Christian Academy and the father of two children. What is Tom charged with that results in the loss of his two children and a lawsuit against the school?

Answer: child abuse

Tom loses his children to an anonymous call reporting him for abusing his own children. This report is false because Tom demonstrates later in the social worker visits that he loves his kids by talking to them and bring them their favorite things. He also brings them their Bibles.

Tom is a teacher at the church's Christian school and disciplines a child for violent behavior. A lawsuit is brought against the school because part of the discipline involved spanking the child. Tom however is a loving teacher and confirms with his pastor and a lawyer that all discipline is given in love. The policy of the school is to counsel the child, pray with them, and help them understand their wrong before spanking. The courts however view this as a case of child abuse.
4. Amber is a child that frequently has violent outbursts and accuses people, curses, and swears at the Name of the Lord when confronted. What is the name of the "second personality" Amber has?

Answer: Amethyst

Amber is the child at the center of the lawsuit against the school. She frequently has violent outbursts as Amethyst, a make believe pony. She was punished by Tom for her violent behavior in the classroom by being spanked. When Amber (as Amethyst) starts cursing and using profanities Tom believes she has a demon and tries to cast it out of her.

This offends Amber's mother who brings the lawsuit against the school. Later Amber's mother, Lucy, realizes it is more than a split personality when her daughter tries to kill her with a knife.
5. After Tom's children were taken away from him, they were in a near-miss car accident with the social worker and Sally Roe.

Answer: True

Mrs. Bedsloe, the social worker, is driving at a very high speed and decides to run a stop sign at a four way intersection. She almost collides with the pickup Sally Roe is driving. Both children are badly shaken up but they do not forget the lady that Mrs. Bedsloe almost collides with. Ruth, Tom's daughter, gets a bump on her head from the near miss. Later, Mrs. Bedsloe tries to cover the incident by blaming Ruth's head injury on Tom and tries to keep the children from telling him the truth when he visits them.

Sally Roe is trying to escape for her life when Mrs. Bedsloe almost collides with her at the intersection. She is badly injured and holding on to her shoulder. The children see Sally and later they try to identify her when they are shown pictures of her.
6. Not everything seems quite right as events unfold in the town. The police misidentify the body of the woman in the goat shed as Sally Roe. What do the police rule as the cause of death?

Answer: suicide

Although evidence clearly suggests a murder, the police Sargent Mulligans rules it as a suicide. Ben Cole, another police officer, finds evidence that the woman is not Sally Roe and is not a suicide. The woman does not match Sally's description as Ben finds out more information from the town people. Mulligans tries to pressure Ben to accept the case file as closed, and Ben suspects that Mulligans is trying to cover up something. Ben is fired from his job as a police officer but still does not stop investigating. Later it is revealed that some of the police were involved in the plot to cover up the murder of Sally Roe, but did not know that Sally had escaped and murdered her attacker.
7. The angels are in spiritual warfare with the demon, Destroyer. They are aided in their source of power from the saint's prayers. What hinders the saints from praying and supporting the church during the lawsuit?

Answer: they are disunited over gossip and the popular opinions of the news

The saints in Bacon's Corner are caught up with the attacks coming against the church rather than defending the church. Three families take their children out of the school when the lawsuit against the school arises for Tom disciplining a child by spanking. Even though spanking is part of the school's policy they start to question Tom's character and if he should teach in the school at all. Mark, the church's pastor, tries to get support for Tom and people praying. Later Mark finds out the reason many of the people left the church and the school was that of one of the saints (who was practicing with the Satanists), was spreading rumors and lines through the prayer line.
8. Ben prays that God will send help. God answers and sends a man who is very familiar with spiritual warfare from his previous experience in his own town. What is the name of the newspaper man who arrives to help the church people at Bacon's Corner?

Answer: Marshall Hogan

Marshall Hogan is very familiar with spiritual warfare because of a spiritual attack he and his church went through in Ashton. He gathers the church leaders of Bacon square, and works closely with Ben, Mark, and Tom to get to the bottom of the problems.

He also teaches them the power they have in prayer because this is a spiritual fight and things are not always what they seem. With the help of his newspaper aid in Ashton, they find the facts and answers that have been hiding from the church people.

They discover that the legal attacks and crimes are an effort of a Satanist group that is praying for the church's downfall.
9. Sally Roe confronts her past and becomes a Christian. When she is brought to the people who are trying to kill her, she confronts their attempts to bring her down by telling them that she has been forgiven by Jesus Christ.

Answer: True

Sally Roe is taken hostage and threatened by the group that has tried to kill her. However Sally is not afraid and even though she is abused she has the courage to tell them that Jesus Christ has become a part of her life. She confronts them when they try to tell that her life is worthless because she used to be apart of their New Age movement and murdered her daughter. Sally was responsible for the curriculum that taught Amber to invite a demon into her life at school. Sally tells them that Jesus has forgiven her and she realizes the wrong she has done, but she is no longer ashamed of her past.

This angers her attackers who are being influenced by the Strongman, a leader demon. They try to kill her but because of Sally's prayers and the saint's prayers the angels rescue her.
10. At the end of the novel, Sally Roe crosses paths with Mrs. Bedsloe and Tom's children. What does Sally view this as?

Answer: a sign from God that the darkness has been broken

Sally returns home after the police and FBI have broken up the Satanist ring. On her way home she sees the children at the same crossroads that she had almost collided with them when she was running for her life. She starts crying because this means that the children are going home as well.

She believes that this is God's sign that the darkness has been broken and she will be able to live her life again without fear. Mrs. Bedsloe is a careful driver this time and does not abuse the children. They are returned to Tom and become a reunited family once more. Tom also becomes friends with Sally and the church family of Bacon Square welcomes her.
