Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many times did Thursday shoot Acheron Hades in their first meeting?

Answer: 0

Thursday first met Acheron when she was in college; this is why she was picked to join SO-5 on the original case. Although Acheron 'hit on' Thursday, that was no reason for her to shoot him.
2. What room does Thursday convince her mother to paint?

Answer: Bedroom

Thursday's father comes back, to tell Thursday to stop her mother from painting the bedroom. Accidentally, Thursday does quite the opposite, convincing her to paint it in the first place. Mauve was such an ugly color.
3. Which Congressional member is against the funding for an engine that will power an aircraft without propellers?

Answer: Congresswoman Kelly

In the opening of Chapter 8, Fforde adds one of his signature excerpts. This particular one is from Congresswoman Kelly's speech against funding for new forms of propulsion in August of 1972.
4. How long had the dealer had the 356 Speedster?

Answer: 6 months

Due to her adventures with time traveling, Thursday knows that she must purchase that specific car, much to the chagrin of the salesman.
5. What convention was being held at the Finis Hotel when Thursday checked in?

Answer: 112th Annual John Milton Convention

John Miltons were plethoric in this time, with nearly 4,000 John Miltons in the London phonebook. In this era, literature was taken to a new level and fandom was a drastic understatement to the love and obsessive nature of the citizens of England in this time.
6. When Bowden and Thursday come out of the time vortex, what year does Rutter say it is?

Answer: 2016

They were actually only gone for 7 hours, but the ChronoGuard have a weird sense of humor. This trip not only accomplishes the past time problems in the hospital room, but also the future problems from the crossing-point for the dead.
7. Who did Lydia Startright interview first about the Jane Eyre theft?

Answer: Oswald Mandias

Oswald Mandias, the savvy police officer that he is, takes Lydia's questions in stride making no official answers and not commenting on the Goliath appearance.
8. How did Victor know where the Penderyn Hotel was?

Answer: He spent his honeymoon there

Originally Thursday thought that Penderyn was a place, but when Bowden realizes the Guess was actually Gwesty, the trio realizes that it is a hotel and not a town.
9. In what year did Wales declare independence?

Answer: 1854

The excerpt from Chapter 31, from Wales - Birth of a Republic, explains how and when Wales became independent from England. The hostility between Wales and England is somewhat of a recurring theme in Fforde's books.
10. Which character is directly responsible for Thursday's realization of how to kill Acheron?

Answer: Bertha Rochester

The silver in the scissors that Bertha stabbed Acheron with, were what caused him so much pain. Therefore the bullet from Spike, silver as well, would cause the ultimate demise of Acheron.
