Answer: Aragorn II, son of Arathorn II, son of Arassuil.

Arassuil is father of Arathorn I and is subsequently "Strider" Aragorn's great-great-great-grandfather. Incidentally, Samwise's name in true Hobbitish is Banazir, Ban for short.

2. Which of the following years of the Third Age are of particular significance to Aragorn and Arwen?

Answer: 241, 2933, 2951, 2980

The other sets of numbers are significant to Bilbo (131=age he sailed to the Undying Lands, 2890=birth year, 2942=year returned from Erebor, 3021=year sailed to Undying Lands), the Second Age (442=death of Erros, 1697=death of Celebrimbor, 3320=Sauron returns to Mordor and founding of Arnor and Gondor, 3434=Battle of Dagorlad, 2nd defeat of Sauron), and Elrond (109=year wed Celebrian, 2509=Celebrian is waylaid by orcs, 2941=year Thorin and Co pass through Imladris on their way to Erebor).

Incidentally, Arwen is 2690 years older than Aragorn.

He was definitely ahead of his time!

Glorfindel made this prophesy during the Battle of Fornost TA 1975, when the elves waged war against the Witch-king of Angmar.

During the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, Eowyn commanded the Lord of the Nazgul, "Begone, foul dwimmerlaik, lord of carrion! Leave the dead in peace!" The term 'dwimmerlaik' means 'work of necromancy' in Rohirric.

These events occurred on February 28 TA 3019. It's in the Appendices, if you want to check. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields and the deaths of Denethor and Theoden occurred on the Ides of March. Julius Caesar would have been sympathetic.

5. How many years was Durin's Bane present Khazad-dum from when the dwarves awoke it to when it encountered Gandalf the Grey and the Fellowship of the Ring?

Answer: 1039

The Balrog was awoken by the Dwarves in TA 1980 when they mined for mithril and went too deep. The battle between the Balrog and Gandalf occurred in January of 3019. "65" is the number of years of friendship between Aragorn and Gandalf before Gandalf sailed to the Undying Lands. "2401" is the number of years that Elrond and Celebrian were married before she sailed to the Undying Lands. "3018" naturally refers to the year that Frodo's adventures began in the books.

6. What colour were the slippers worn by the hobbits in Tom Bombadil's house?

Answer: green

It's called "trivia" for a reason. Tom Bombadil is suspected to be a Maia "gone native." The elves called him Iarwain Ben-adar.

Answer: 105

There were 105 that met Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. There were also three riderless horses.

The followers of Celebrimbor are called the Gwaith-i-Mirdain (Jewel Smiths). After Eregion was destroyed, many helped Elrond build Imladris. Feanor is credited with the creation of the Palantiri.

Answer: 38

So, you can just imagine the number of generations separating Aragorn and Arwen. They were betrothed for 39 years. I don't think I could wait that long for any guy. :P Again, any mistakes are mine alone. Hope the extra bits of trivia were amusing.
