Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Borat frequently greets people with the phrase "Jak sie masz!" This means "How are you?", but in what language?

Answer: Polish

For some reason Sacha Baron Cohen decided to have his character use a Polish greeting, although he does not speak Polish. The rest of Borat's non-English dialogue is mostly Hebrew.
2. Borat meets some people of African origin, playing for money in a doorway, and asks them to tell him how to speak like them. How does he address a hotel clerk in the following scene? "What's up with it______?"

Answer: vanilla face

At this point only advanced mathematicians can appreciate the full implications: a Jewish Englishman, pretending to be an Eastern European, using the self-deprecating language of one racial group while insulting a member of another... It's just as well he didn't involve any Native Americans in this.
3. When talking about his hobbies, we see Borat strolling on the beach. What kind of swimwear is he sporting?

Answer: a combination of all of these

You can actually buy these on eBay. Just look for Borat full body string. They could make a nice gift for your uncle.
4. Neither Borat nor Azamat, his producer, are speaking Kazakh in the movie. Borat is speaking in Hebrew, but his producer is replying in another language - which one?

Answer: Armenian

Ken Davitian is from an Armenian family, and is speaking this language throughout. The fact that the characters are not even speaking the same language is typical of the Borat phenomenon - sounding foreign is enough, even if you are talking complete gibberish.
5. People have certain ideas about traveling to foreign countries and with "Borat", Sacha Baron Cohen exploits all of these expectations as much as he can. Which of these endearing customs does he NOT inflict on victims during the movie?

Answer: Burping loudly after eating

Borat tries to haggle with the first Hotel clerk he meets, he drives on the wrong side of the road during his driving lesson and he tries to kiss just about every male he meets, including the guy who states that if Borats kisses him he will pop him one. For some reason he never kisses women on the cheek. In fact Borat does a lot of burping during the TV series.
6. Which of the following is not reported to be suing Sacha Baron Cohen?

Answer: The humour coach

Patrick Haggerty, the humour coach is not taking legal action - he said of Sacha Baron Cohen "he's a comic genius". One of the Chi Psi members has already begun a lawsuit, claiming that the film crew got him drunk and made him say things he would not have said normally. Two inhabitants of Glod have filed a suit in New York, claiming exploitation. According to reports, Mr. Psenicska is taking action because he felt that his life was put at risk when his student started to drive on the wrong side of the road.
7. When Borat is reunited with with his producer in Los Angeles, Azamat is dressed up as Oliver Hardy, from Laurel and Hardy. In the voice over, however, we hear that Borat has misinterpreted his disguise: "I had not come to Hollywood to fight with a man dressed as _____." Whom did Borat think Azamat was dressed up as?

Answer: Hitler

Borat thought his friend was dressed as the German dictator, who admittedly had a moustache not unlike Oliver Hardy's. As for the other answers, they are all famous people with a moustache! However, Chaplin satirised Hitler in "The Great Dictator", Einstein was outlawed by Hitler and Flanders discussed Hitler in "Viva Ned Flanders".
8. What effect has the film had on Pamela Anderson, according to the paparazzi?

Answer: It broke up her marriage.

According to the New York Post, Kid Rock stormed out of a screening of the movie, which he thought humiliating. Divorce papers followed. How much of this is true and how much of it is free publicity for a film that barely needed any? Well the timing of the screening and the legal papers is undeniable, but it is hard to believe that this movie could have broken up a marriage on its own - even if it was a Hollywood marriage.
9. During Borat's driving lesson Mike Psenicska, the driving instructor, tells him that "a woman has the right to choose who she has sex with." What does Borat reply?

Answer: "What?"

Brevity being the soul of wit, the short answer is the correct one, although it could have been spelled "Whaaaaaaaat?" If any of the other comments sound familiar it is because they come from other parts of the movie or promotional interviews.
10. In November 2006, Nursultan Nazarbayev, the president of Kazakhstan, spoke in public about the movie "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." What did he say?

Answer: "Any publicity is good publicity."

After initially rejecting the movie wholesale, the Kazakh foreign office came round to see that Kazakhstan was not the main target of the movie. Finally, the president himself tackled the subject in a press conference, in the UK, during which he said "The film was created by a comedian so let's laugh at it - that's my attitude." As for who the main target of the movie is, that's a whole 'nother quiz...
