Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. (1997) "Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me. It brought me to you." - Jack Dawson

Answer: Titanic

Third class passenger, Jack Dawson, who won his ticket in a poker game minutes before the Titanic set sail, delivered this line to first class passenger Rose Dewitt Bukater after the great ship struck an iceberg and sank. Rose was lying on a door and Jack was in the freezing water waiting to be rescued when the line was spoken.
The romance between these fictional characters is told retrospectively, while a salvage crew searches the wreck for a priceless diamond necklace that once belonged to Rose. A very old Rose takes the salvage crew through the few days of the Titanic's only voyage, including the fateful night of her sinking.
Under James Cameron's direction "Titanic" won 11 Academy Awards.
2. (1980) "No... I am your father." Darth Vader

Answer: The Empire Strikes Back

Luke Skywalker's training to become a Jedi Knight is interrupted by the need to rescue his friends, Han and Leia, from the clutches of Darth Vadar, the Sith Lord whom Luke believes to have murdered his father. As they battle with their light sabers Vader reveals that Luke was misinformed, and that Vader is in fact his father who had turned to evil under the Emperor's influence.
Although it was the second movie released, "The Empire Strikes Back" is the fifth episode of the "Star Wars" saga. The movies tell the tale of an epic battle between good and evil, fought for control of the universe. The original trilogy (Episodes 4, 5 & 6) were wonderful, character-driven stories that were revolutionary for their time. The second trilogy sacrificed plot and character development for spectacular special effects.
Irvin Kershner directed this film that starred Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, David Prowse, and the amazing voice of James Earl Jones.
My thanks to player No1BucFan, who passed along this suggestion from her husband!
3. (1970) "Love means never having to say you're sorry." Jennifer Barrett and Oliver Barrett, IV

Answer: Love Story

"Love Story" tells the story of a love between a rich Harvard Law student and a poor Radcliffe music student. They marry, against the wishes of his father, who then cuts him off without a penny. They struggle to get by at first but they make it work, and before too long try to start a family. This is when they discover that Jenny has leukemia, a disease to which she eventually succumbs.
The line was spoken by Jenny, after their first big fight when Oliver apologises after she ends up getting locked out in the pouring rain. It was also spoken by Oliver, in the voice over, when he is describing his life with Jenny, and it also served as the tag line for the movie.
Arthur Hiller directed this moving film, probably the first tear-jerker that I ever watched, which starred Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neil.
4. (1998) "I kissed you." - Helen Quilley (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) "Yeah, I spotted that too." - James Hammerton (played by John Hannah)

Answer: Sliding Doors

"Sliding Doors" shows us two very different versions of a woman's life, predicated on whether or not she catches a certain train home. In the version in which she makes the train, she gets home to find her boyfriend cheating on her, and in the other version she continues to support him, unaware of his duplicity. While different in several key points, the outcomes of the two versions share a lot of threads in common as well.
This line is delivered in the version where she does catch the train, by a man who is very interested in her. Realizing how fragile she is after her break-up, he is reluctant to push her too hard, but reluctant to let go either. At one point she takes the initiative and kisses him, after which he continues what he'd been saying just before, unsure about how to respond without scaring her away. This exchange occurs just after that.
My continued thanks to Nannanut, who suggested this cheesy quote.
5. (1984) "... the sustain... listen to it." - Nigel Tufnel "I don't hear anything." - Marty Di Bergi "Well you would though, if it were playing." - Nigel Tufnel

Answer: This is Spinal Tap

Rob Reiner's hysterically funny film pretends to be a documentary about England's loudest band, and their tour of the US. Between problems with their new album (which their record company is not releasing due to its offensive cover) and their waning popularity, the tour isn't turning out the way they'd planned at all. Reiner plays Di Bergi, the film producer who is making the documentary.

This line occurs while he's interviewing one of the band members, who's showing off his collection of guitars. Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer star as the middle aged, burnt out rock musicians.
6. (2004) "Why the long faces?" - Shrunken Head

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

In this installment of the "Harry Potter" movies, Hogwarts is being guarded by Dementors, the horrible inhuman guards from Azkaban. They are looking for Sirius Black, the man believed to be responsible for killing many people and betraying Harry's family to Lord Voldemort. He is also the only wizard to have successfully escaped from that vile prison.
At the beginning of the movie, Harry loses his temper with Aunt Marge and takes the Knights Bus to the Leaky Cauldron. The talking shrunken head that dangles from the front of the bus delivers this line, just after the Knight's Bus compresses itself to squeeze into the narrow space between too other buses, and everyone on the bus also becomes stretched out and thin.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Gary Oldman starred under Alfonson Cuaron's direction.
7. (2002) "I don't mean to toot my own horn, but if Jesus Christ lived in Chicago today and he had come to me and he had five thousand dollars... let's say things would have turned out differently." - Billy Flynn

Answer: Chicago

The story told in "Chicago" is loosely based on a real time and place when the lawlessness of the Prohibition Era condoned and almost celebrated the number of women who were killing their husbands and lovers. "Chicago" focuses in on the fictional Velma and Roxie, two women who had done just that, and their flamboyant lawyer, Billy Flynn, who will go to any lengths to win.

This line is Flynn's response to being questioned about whether he was really good enough to deserve a five thousand dollar fee. Rob Marshall directed this fantastic film that starred Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, John C. Reilly and Queen Latifah.
8. (2004) "I'm not afraid of dying, I'm afraid of watching you sail away and knowing you'll never come back. Before you came to Sparta I was a ghost. I walked and I ate and I swam in the sea, but I was just a ghost." - Helen

Answer: Troy

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, "Troy" tells the story of a love between Paris, a Prince of Troy, and Helen, the Queen of Sparta. When Helen is persuaded to escape with her new love, her husband launches a war to get her back.
This line occurs earlier in the movie, after Paris presents Helen with a gift of pearls, but Helen, worried about her husband's anger, is afraid to accept them.
Diane Krueger, Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt, Eric Bana and Brian Cox star.
9. (2003) "Elizabeth, I should have told you every day from the moment I met you... I love you." - Will Turner

Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Captain Barbossa and his crew seek the last pieces (both gold and human) needed to break the curse under which he and his crew live. Captain Jack Sparrow tries to get back the ship that they stole from him. The solutions to each problem lie with Will Turner, a young man who was found adrift at sea when a just a boy.
Will speaks this line very near the end of the movie, just before he risks everything to do the right thing and save Sparrow from the gallows. With these words he finally brings himself to admit his love for the governor's daughter, an admission that he'd been resisting for years because of the differences in their social statures.
Gore Verbinski directed this very funny film that starred Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and Keira Knightley.
10. (2001) "Danny, you can't die. You know why? 'Cause you're going to be a daddy. I wasn't supposed to tell you... you're gonna be a father." - Rafe "No...you are." - Danny

Answer: Pearl Harbor

When Rafe was declared missing in action Danny, his best friend, and Evelyn, his girlfriend, found comfort in each other's company. By the time Rafe returned, Evelyn was carrying Danny's child, and feeling very torn between her love for both men. The bombing of Pearl Harbor put their troubles into perspective. Danny and Rafe were asked to fly a top secret, retaliatory mission.

While on the mission, Danny was mortally wounded, and this exchange occurred between the two friends when Rafe tried to give Danny a reason to live. Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsale starred under Michael Bay's direction.
