Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the all-time cutest aliens has to be the furry tribble. In what space movie does a dead tribble help save Captain Kirk's life?

Answer: Star Trek Into Darkness

The tribbles are cute, slow moving, furry creatures that purr when stroked. They have appeared in four "Star Trek" episodes and have been mentioned in four "Star Trek" films. In the 2009 movie "Star Trek Into Darkness" Dr McCoy is seen using a dead tribble to test Khan's blood, which ultimately leads to the saving of Captain Kirk's life.

The movie focuses on Captain Kirk and his crew as they battle Commander John Harrison, a rogue Starfleet man who turns out to be the old enemy Khan. The film leads to epic space battles, which ultimately lead to the destruction of the USS Enterprise and the USS Vengeance and the recapture of Khan. Tribbles are from the planet Iota Geminorum IV.

They are built for two functions -- to eat and to reproduce. Two interesting facts about tribbles, they are mortal enemies of Klingons and they are born pregnant.
2. Which of the following movies introduces us to cute green, three-eyed aliens from Pizza Planet?

Answer: Toy Story

The "Toy Story" franchise began in 1995. The first film was directed by John Lasseter and was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and the Pixar Animation Studios. "Toy Story" was the first ever full length computer-animated film. The story features anthropomorphic toys that come alive when people are not looking.

The main characters are the Cowboy Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen). In "Toy Story" Andy gets a new toy and Buzz Lightyear arrives. Woody is jealous and accidentally knocks Buzz out of the window.

The two toys end up at Pizza Planet where they are hoping to find their owner, Andy. Buzz climbs into a machine where he meets the cute green three-eyed alien toys for the first time. Andy's mean neighbor Sid plays the game and uses the claw to capture Buzz and Woody.

The two toys combine to teach Sid a lesson on how better to look after his toys. The aliens play a significant role in the first three movies and save their friends in "Toy Story 3". After this courageous act they are adopted by Mr and Mrs Potato Head. Great movie series!
3. Which animated Disney movie features the loveable Experiment 626 and his adopted Hawaiian family?

Answer: Lilo and Stitch

Okay, I am stretching cute a little because many people don't see Stitch as being very cute, then again beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder. "Lilo and Stitch" was directed by Chris Sanders and was the 42nd animated movie to be released by Walt Disney Pictures.

The story follows Experiment 626, a genetic experiment that escapes from his planet and lands in Hawaii. He is mistaken for a dog and is adopted by Lilo and her family.
4. No quiz on cute aliens would be complete without mention of what teddy bear - like creature from "Return of the Jedi"?

Answer: Ewok

The Ewok is one of George Lucas' most brilliant creations. They appear for the first time in 1983 in the third movie created (episode 6) within the "Star Wars" franchise. These cute characters are inhabitants of the forest world of Endor and assist Luke Skywalker and his friends take down the technological power of the Empire.
5. In the world of science fiction and space movies there have been many memorable and cute robots. Which of the following can be successfully matched to "Buck Rogers"?

Answer: Twiki

Showing my age a little here, but one of my favorite movies and television shows as a child was Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. The film based on the comic strip was released in March of 1979. In the story, Captain William Buck Rogers is found floating in space frozen. He is returned to Earth 500 years later. Buck Rogers soon finds himself drawn into a fight to save Earth from the invading Draconians. He is assisted in his crusade by the very cute robot Twiki and the over-sized, artificial intelligence bling he wears around his neck called Dr. Theopolis.
6. The character Neytiri, is tall, blue, sexy, and cute. Which James Cameron blockbuster does this member of the Na'vi appear in?

Answer: Avatar

"Avatar" was a box office winner, earning over two billion dollars worldwide (first ever film to meet this milestone) and over 700 million dollars just in the United States. The story focuses on the indigenous Na'vi tribe, a blue-skinned people who live in harmony with the environment.

In the year 2154, miners from Earth arrive to mine a precious mineral and decide to destroy the homes of the Na'vi people. Jake Sully, a disabled marine is brought in to be a part of the Avatar program. Science has made it possible for a person to assume the form of a Na'vi through a psychic connection. Jake falls in love with Neytiri and unites the tribes in a fight against the miners.
7. Which of the following "Star Trek" parody movies, starring Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver, features cute aliens that transform into little green monsters?

Answer: Galaxy Quest

What quiz on aliens would not be complete without mention of Sigourney Weaver? "Galaxy Quest" very quickly developed a cult-like following. "Reader's Digest" has called it one of their top 100 funniest movies. J.J. Abrams, interestingly calls it the best "Star Trek" movie ever made.

The story focuses on retired actors of the show "Galaxy Quest". Their commander is James Nesmith (Tim Allen). Aliens from another planet have intercepted transmissions of old episodes of the show and come to Earth to secure the crew's services in fighting an enemy.

While they are on a mission to fight the alien's enemies they meet some cute, child-like aliens on a desert planet. The cute aliens turn into terrifying aliens when they attack a disabled member of their group.
8. Which Disney released movie follows the adventures of 12-year-old David Freeman and ends with the cute Puckmaren alien stowing away in his backpack?

Answer: Flight of the Navigator

David lives in Florida and one day falls into a ravine. When he awakes he finds that everything around him has changed and it is now eight years into the future. He finds out that he was abducted by an alien spaceship and taken to their homeland, Phaelon, where he is tested. David persuades Max, the spaceship commander to return him to his own time.

When he wakes up he discovers that the Puckmaren, the last of his species, has stowed away in his backpack. The Puckmaren is a cute bat-like creature that has developed a friendship with David. Largely positive in its reviews, the film made almost 20 million dollars at the box office.
9. Which of the following cute muppet characters is the star of the full length feature movie "Muppets from Space"?

Answer: Gonzo

The Great Gonzo has always had an identity crisis and has never known his family or where he comes from. All that changes in the "Muppets from Space" movie. It was released in 1999 by Walt Disney Pictures and was the 6th movie in the Muppet's franchise. Gonzo comes to realize that he is an alien from outer space.

He is chased by government agents and rescued by his Muppet friends. His family arrive and offer to take him away from Earth but Gonzo decides to stay. This is one of my all-time favorite movies.
10. No cute aliens quiz would be complete without mention of what phone-ringing alien creation of Steven Spielberg?

Answer: ET

Most people do not realize that the idea of "ET" (Extra Terrestrial) came from the imaginary friend Steven Spielberg created back in 1960 to help him deal with the trauma of seeing his parents divorce. The film was released in 1980 and tracks a young boy, Elliot, who befriends a stranded alien.

They are hounded by government officials until he is rescued by his family at the end of the movie. "ET" surpassed "Star Wars" as the highest ever grossing movie, a title it held for ten years, until the making of "Jurassic Park".
