When the Pevensie children were evacuated out of the city during the war, they discovered an amazing world called Narnia, through the back of one of the professor's old wardrobes. While one of the brothers chose to cast his lot with the cruel, self-crowned Queen of Narnia, the other three set off to find the lion, Aslan, in the hopes of defeating the Queen and freeing their brother. James Cosmos played the kindly Father Christmas whom they met along the way.

2. (2000) With his green fur sticking out from underneath his homemade Santa suit and his trusty dog Max, this villain pretended to be Santa, so that he could sneak into houses and steal Christmas from the Whos; to stop Christmas from coming of course. Who was this fiend?

Answer: Grinch

Living alone (well except for his dog) on the top of Mount Crumpit, the only thing the Grinch despised more than the Whos, in the town below, was Christmas. Determined to spoil it for everyone, he decided to dress up as Santa, sneak into their homes and steal every physical manifestation of Christmas. What he soon found out was that he hadn't succeeded in stealing Christmas at all, and that epiphany made for a happy ending.
Under Ron Howard's direction, Jim Carrey played the Grinch to perfection in (2000), and Boris Karloff lent his incredible voice to the 1966 animated version.

With successful roles in both television and film, Tim Allen has come a long way from his beginnings in stand-up comedy. As much as I enjoyed his performances in Pixar's "Toy Story" 1 and 2, it is as the cynical, manipulative Scott Calvin that I enjoyed him the most. Slowly but surely, with the help of his son Charlie, Scott came to realize that children did indeed hold Christmas in their hearts, and that he truly had become Santa Claus.

Successful entertainers Wallace and Davis (Crosby and Kaye) were appalled to find the unseasonably warm weather threatening to drive their old Army General bankrupt. Rallying the cast from their Broadway show, they concocted a way to bring in the crowds, thus saving the General from bankruptcy, while giving him a night that he would never forget. Fortunately the weather finally co-operated, with a beautiful Christmas Eve snowfall.

5. (1947) Stepping in as a last minute replacement for the Santa Claus parade, this Santa claimed to be the real thing. He was certainly convincing, and soon developed a following among children and parents alike, even convincing the world-wise daughter of the cynical woman who hired him. Not everyone loved him though, and he soon found himself in court, trying to convince the judge that he was who he claimed to be. What veteran actor filled the Santa suit in this film?

Answer: Edmund Gwenn

Born in Wales in 1875, Gwenn was the perfect Santa in "Miracle on 34th Street". He had a long and successful career before passing in 1959 from pneumonia and complications from a stroke. Natalie Wood played the young girl whose life was so enriched from knowing him.
Richard Attenborough donned the role in the 1994 remake of the film.

6. (2003) Edward Asner played the frustrated Santa in this comedy about a human child who had crawled into Santa's sack one Christmas Eve, and ended up being raised at the North Pole among the elves. What Christmas movie was this?

Answer: Elf

Will Ferrell played Buddy, the human who didn't realize he was adopted, even when reaching the height of 6'3", when he towered over all of the other elves. When finally informed of his heritage, he set off to find his real father, still dressed in his elfin uniform. Typical Will Ferrell comedy was the result, with Ferrell playing his favourite character of a little boy trapped in a big man's body.

7. (2004) In "The Polar Express" a trainload of children were taken to the North Pole on Christmas Eve, so that they could experience first hand the magic that is Christmas. The very talented Tom Hanks has kept us entertained for years. Whether playing it straight and dramatic as in "Apollo 13" and "The DaVinci Code", or making us laugh in "Big" and "A League of Their Own", or teaching us about romance in "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail", Hanks does not disappoint.

Although not the most honest man in the world (after all he was in jail for auto theft), Rudy Duncan had no desire to do anything to get himself locked up again. After six years of abstinence, the prospect of a night with the beautiful Ashley (played by Charlize Theron) was too good to pass up. Things went badly when her violent brother broke in on them, forcing Affleck to help them plan the casino heist. Was that the way it really happened, or was the con being conned?

10. (1983) All Ralphie really wanted for Christmas was a Red Ryder BB Gun, but everyone kept telling him that he'd shoot his eye out. When Ralphie went to ask Santa for this most treasured of gifts, did the jolly old elf also caution him about shooting his eye out?

Jeff Gillen played Santa in the delightful movie, "A Christmas Story", which was narrated by a grown-up Ralph, looking back at this momentous Christmas. After waiting in line forever, when poor Ralphie finally had his turn with Santa, he froze and forgot what to ask him for. Santa suggested a football, and Ralphie nodded agreement. Halfway down the slide Ralphie came to his senses, crawled back up the slide and blurted out what he really wanted. Santa uttered the dreaded line, planted his boot on Ralphie's head and pushed him back down the slide.
