Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which secret do the Tarleton twins share with Scarlett?

Answer: That Ashley Wilkes will be marrying his cousin Melanie Hamilton

Scarlett O'Hara the main female character in the movie (and in the book as well), was always in love with Ashley Wilkes and dreamed of marrying him and becoming his wife.
Scarlett was portrayed by Vivien Leigh.
2. What is the Wilkes's plantation called?

Answer: Twelve Oaks

This is where a barbeque is held and where Scarlett tells Ashley Wilkes that she loves him for the first time, with disastrous consequences. This is also where Scarlett first meets Rhett Butler.
3. To whom does Scarlett get married before the war starts?

Answer: Charles Hamilton

Charles Hamilton is Melanie Hamilton's brother.
Scarlett agrees to marry Charles although it is clear that she does not really love him.
When the men rush to enlist in the army, just after Charles asks Scarlett's hand in marriage, Scarlett is staring out the window at Ashley.
4. Where is Scarlett seen which fires up gossip?

Answer: A charity bazaar in Atlanta

After Charles dies of measles while enlisted in the army, Scarlett is sent to Atlanta by her mother to cheer her up.
However, Scarlett is supposed to be in mourning and therefore should not be seen in public; this is what fires up the gossip among the townsfolk, especially after Rhett Butler bids on her for a dance and she accepts.
5. Why did Scarlett not flee when Atlanta was under attack from the Yankees?

Answer: She promised Ashley she would take care of Melanie.

Before Ashley returned to the war, after Christmas, he made Scarlett promise him that she would take care of Melanie. Scarlett agreed because she loved him so much. However, while the city was besieged by the Union Army, Melanie went into premature labour and Scarlett had to stay, together with Prissy, and deliver the baby, because of the promise she had made to Ashley.
Later on Rhett arrives to take Scarlett, Melanie and Prissy from Atlanta so that they may flee to Tara.
6. What does Scarlett eat when she arrives at Tara after their escape from Atlanta?

Answer: Radish

This is the only food she finds at Tara since the Yankees has destroyed all the plantations and killed or taken all of the livestock. It is during this scene that Scarlett swears that she "will never be hungry again."
7. After the war is over Scarlett goes to Atlanta to borrow money. While in Atlanta she meets a man whom she subsequently marries. Who is Scarlett's second husband?

Answer: Frank Kennedy

Scarlett goes to Atlanta to borrow the money from Rhett Butler, who is locked up in a Yankee prison. On her way back she runs into Frank Kennedy, who is her sister's boyfriend, informs him that her sister has been cheating on him and later goes on to marry him. Scarlett marries Frank because he owns a store, which at the time was doing quite well, and the money from the store will enable her to pay the taxes on Tara.
8. After Frank dies, who does Scarlett marry?

Answer: Rhett Butler

After Frank is shot, Rhett asks Scarlett to marry him and she accepts. They have one daughter Bonnie, who later on in the movie has a fatal horse riding accident.
9. What color is the dress that Scarlett wears to Ashley's birthday party?

Answer: Red

Scarlett refuses to go to the party, because India Wilkes and Mrs Meade caught Ashley and Scarlett hugging each other in the mill. However, Rhett forces her to go and picks out this gorgeous gown for her. When they arrive at the party Rhett leaves her at the door to face the people by herself, but luckily looking spectacular.
10. What does Rhett say to Scarlett at the end of the movie?

Answer: Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

At the end of the movie Scarlett realises that she has always loved Rhett and that she has never really loved Ashley. Rhett however is done trying to prove his love to Scarlett and this is the answer that he gives her.
This line costs the producers $5000.00 to keep it in the movie since it contained the word "damn", which was not a word which was approved of in 1939.
