Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To battle the Killer Rabbit of the Cave of Caerbannog, what did Arthur tell Brother Maynard to use?

Answer: The Holy Hand Grenade Of Antioch

The Knights wanted to enter the cave because Tim told them that the location of the Grail was etched in runes inside the cave. After overconfidently charging in with swords, and getting several knights slaughtered by the bunny, Arthur realized that harsher methods would be required to defeat the rabbit.

He remembered that Brother Maynard carried miscellaneous sacred relics around with him, which included the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. After a not-so-quick consultation of the Book of Armaments to figure out how to deploy it, the Holy Hand Grenade was lobbed, and the bunny was blown to bits.
2. What did the French Taunter call Arthur's mother?

Answer: a hamster

"Go and boil your bottom, sons of a silly person! I fart in your general direction! Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time-a!"

As Arthur and his Knights were travelling the countryside, looking to recruit more knights for their quest, they came across a castle and Arthur asked the guard at the top if they could seek food and shelter there. The guard turned out to be a Frenchman who had an obvious dislike for English types, and he proceeded to unleash a brutal verbal assault on Arthur and his Knights.

This scene was actually shot using a plywood mock-up of the top of the tower, since filming at the actual height of the tower walls would have been very expensive and dangerous.
3. At the Castle Anthrax, Galahad met Zoot, who had a twin sister. What was this twin's name?

Answer: Dingo

After Galahad told the women that he had seen the Grail above the castle, Dingo introduced herself to him as Zoot's twin sister, Dingo. She blamed Zoot for activating the beacon light above the castle, which just happend to be grail-shaped. She suggested a spanking as a suitable punishment, which all the other women quickly agreed that they also deserved. Galahad decided he might stick around for a while, but unluckily for him, he was "rescued" by Lancelot.
4. When villagers brought an accused witch to Bedevere for judgement, he led the villagers through a series of questions, to determine if the woman was indeed a witch. Which of these items did the villagers NOT suggest, when asked what floated on water?

Answer: Rabbits

"What makes you think she's a witch?" "Well, she turned me into a newt!" "A NEWT?" "Well, I got better..."

Bedevere reasoned that since witches burn, they must be made of wood. And if witches were made of wood, they would therefore float on water, the same as a duck would. Therefore, if she weighed the same as a duck, she must be made of wood, and therefore be a witch. The villagers placed her on a scale, and behold, she weighed the same as a duck. She was dragged off by the villagers to be burned. Arthur walked up on this scene and was impressed with Bedevere's logic and scientific knowledge, and invited him to join the quest.
5. Prince Herbert's father invited Herbert to look out of the tower window, telling him, "One day, lad, all this will be yours!" What was Herbert's response?

Answer: "What, the curtains?"

"But, I don't like her." "Don't like her?! What's wrong with her?! She's beautiful! She's rich! She's got huge... tracts of land!"

Herbert's father was trying to convince Herbert about why he should marry Princess Lucky, whose father owned the huge tracts of land that this quiz is named after. Herbert's father was VERY interested in the huge tracts of land, but Herbert only seemed interested in singing. Herbert's father instructed the guards to keep Herbert in the room until he returned. The guards then launched into a hilarious "Who's on first?" style dialogue.

This scene was shot at the Castle Doune, in Scotland, where the majority of the castle scenes were shot. The room that this scene took place in was also used for the wedding scene, where Lancelot ran through killing everybody. (Look carefully as Lancelot came running in - he passed the very same window from the Prince Herbert/Father scene, curtains and all!)
6. When Arthur encountered the Knights Who Say "Ni!", the Head Knight told Arthur that they were the keepers of the sacred words. Which of these is NOT one of the sacred words?

Answer: Rabbit

"We are no longer the Knights Who Say Ni! We are now the Knights Who Say Ecky-ecky-ecky-ecky-pikang-zoop-boing-goodem-zoo-owli-zhiv!"

In exchange for safe passage through the woods, the Knights Who Say Ni told Arthur that he must first bring them a shrubbery. Once Arthur did this, they changed their name and demanded not only another shrubbery, but also that Arthur cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with a herring.
7. In an attempt to sneak into the French castle, Bedevere came up with a plan to build a huge, wooden decoy, to hide inside. What animal did they build the decoy to resemble?

Answer: rabbit

The plan worked, to the extent that the French did indeed take the wooden rabbit into the castle. However, Bedevere had overlooked the fact that they had to get INTO the rabbit before it was offered to the French, so the plan backfired. The French almost immediately placed the giant rabbit into a catapult and shot it over the castle walls, towards Arthur and his Knights, crushing a poor, innocent page as it crash-landed.

Michael Palin said, in an interview, that building the wooden rabbit and dropping it from a crane in the subsequent scene, probably consumed half the budget for the entire movie. (I think he may have been exaggerating a bit.)
8. Just before they reached Camelot, Bedevere was concluding a scientific explanation to Arthur. What did Bedevere claim the earth was shaped like?

Answer: banana

The scene began with Bedevere, in mid-sentence, telling Arthur, "And that, my liege, is how we know the earth to be banana-shaped." Arthur seemed very impressed by Bedevere's explanations, and asked him to explain again how sheep's bladders could be employed to prevent earthquakes, but they came upon Camelot before Bedevere could launch into this explanation.

The exterior shots of the castle at Camelot were simply a wooden model, not a real castle, which Patsy actually said in the movie as the others were marvelling at the castle, "It's only a model." The interior Camelot shots were made in Castle Doune, in Scotland.
9. After the Knights decided to each go off separately in search of the Grail, Robin initially headed north, through what forest?

Answer: The Dark Forest of Ewing

At the very beginning of the Tale of Sir Robin scene, the narrator said that Robin headed north through the Dark Forest of Ewing, accompanied by his favorite minstrels. Robin's minstrels constantly sang songs accusing Robin of cowardice which, when he wasn't too busy running away, Robin vehemently denied. Makes you wonder why they were his favorite minstrels!
10. What ate Brother Maynard in the Cave of Caerbannog?

Answer: The Black Beast of Aaauuugh

After the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch successfully blew the vicious, killer bunny to tiny bits, Arthur and Knights entered the cave to look for the runes that had the location of the Grail etched into them. However, they were quickly attacked by a cartoon monster that ate Brother Maynard. Luckily, soon after the beast ate Brother Maynard, the animator suffered a heart attack and the animation stopped, saving the rest of the Knights.

They then learned, from the runes in the cave, that the location of the Grail was in Castle Aaauuugh, and they headed there with final victory in sight.

At least they thought it would be final victory, but they were instead taunted by the French Knights again, who had inexplicably moved to Castle Aaauuugh, and then were all arrested for the murder of the historian.
