In the opening scene of the movie, a doctor sits and flips through a diary/scrapbook. He recalls talking to his patient, Malcolm Rivers, asking him where he learned that poem. He says he made it up when he was a kid. The poem is famous. He lied about making it up.

The doctor recalls more of his conversation with Malcolm. When the doctor asks him what else he remembers, it makes Malcolm nervous, hence repeating the same sentence three times. Malcolm knows that the doctor is trying to get him to talk about his troubled childhood. He remembers his mother, who he calls a whore. Her name was Callie Rivers. She left him alone a lot.

Larry wants the contestant to buy a vowel, while he keeps pouring shots of alcohol. I think the drinking, while watching "Wheel", is a regular thing with Larry.

The man's wife has just been hit by a car and has a huge wound in the neck. It's a big gash and she appears to be unconscious.

The limo driver, Ed, played by John Cusack, is one of the most heroic characters in modern movies. He is so much more than a limo driver. He is a self-proclaimed, but humble, ex-cop and ex-medic. He is calm under pressure. He can handle anything.

Answer: He is hunting for a spare cell phone battery for the actress he is driving.

The actress is played by Rebecca DeMornay. She thinks the spare cell phone battery is in the Louis Vutton duffel. She is yelling at the limo driver, Ed, and he looks away at a precise moment in time, hitting the woman.

The son is inside the car staying nice and dry, while his parents are outside dealing with the tire. The mother stops to play with her son, while still holding the umbrella for her husband, and gets caught up in the moment of her son's game. He backs up from the window. She backs up into the road and gets hit.

Paris, played by Amanda Peet, the hooker, is searching for her lighter, and starts going through her suitcase while driving a convertible. The stuff in the suitcase starts flying out of the car, including her high-heeled shoe.

Ed and Paris have an immediate connection. They know that they can trust each other, even as strangers. It's something you can see in their eyes when they look at each other. Paris tells Ed that the road is flooded, but he says he has to try.

Larry, the desk clerk, doesn't like Paris, because he figures out her line of work immediately. He has an unusual dislike for Paris. Larry tells Paris that they don't rent rooms by the hour.

After Larry wishes he had beige thread, George, the husband, stands behind Ed watching him stitch his wife with black thread. He asks Ed where he learned to do that. Ed says that he learned to do it, pretty much from where George is standing. Ed learned by watching.
