1. Where did Marty meet Clara?

Answer: the Stardust Ballroom

Nearly everyone in Marty Piletti's family and even some neighbors are nagging him about getting married because all his younger siblings are. Marty's cousin, Tommy, suggests to Marty's mother to tell him to go to the Stardust Ballroom to find a girl. While there a man tries to unload his plain-looking date on Marty.

Although Marty doesn't take the $5 bribe to do it, he finds himself drawn to the shy schoolteacher.

Mann won his only Academy Award for directing this black and white film. He is one of a small group of directors, including Roman Polanski and Billy Wilder, to win both an Oscar and a Cannes award for directing the same movie.
