Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was Tim for eleven years?

Answer: In an institution

Tim tells his horrifying story to his psychiatrist who, on his twenty-first birthday, deems him able to rejoin society. Tim, who believed his parents to be killed by some sort of supernatural entity, was placed into a psychiatric hospital eleven years earlier while his sister, Kaylie, went on to become a successful young woman in the same time. Upon being discharged, he's placed in his sister's care.

She seems to have everything all sorted out from the get-go, but she insists that he stay with her in the meantime (he doesn't; he goes to a motel).

She has a surprise though.
2. Where does Kaylie find the mirror after eleven years?

Answer: In an auction

Kaylie, who's been spending her time for more than a decade becoming a member of the auctioneer community, comes across a unique mirror, that once hung on the walls of the Scottish Balmoral Castle, placed in a frame of Bavarian black cedar. While the bidding begins at a conservative $10,000, it sells for $16,000 to an unnamed bidder on Skype. Kaylie ends up telling her brother she found the mirror.

She only has a few days with the mirror since it's in her auctioneer company's warehouse, but they can finally figure out the truth. Kaylie says she'll go without Tim if she needs to.
3. Where did Tim and Kaylie's father place the mirror when it first came to their house?

Answer: His office

Eleven years ago, Kaylie, Tim, and their parents (Alan and Marie) ended up moving into a new house, and along with their new furniture, Alan ended up buying an antique mirror-- THE mirror-- and placing it against a blank wall in his office. It doesn't take long before the family starts seeing things. Alan is the first, and on his first night in the house he sees an apparition-- a ghostly woman-- appear before him in the hallway. Marie starts noticing things soon after. Firstly, all the plants in the house have trouble staying alive, even under ideal conditions. Secondly, she appears to be getting sicker and sicker. Kaylie, too, sees something weird. Looking into her father's office window, there appears to be a woman inside with him.
4. The mirror has a fracture in what corner?

Answer: Bottom right

In the present day, Kaylie has night terrors wherein her father attacks her in front of the office mirror. As her behaviour gets a bit more confusing, her fiancee, Michael, asks for the truth. She says that in a couple days, once things are sorted out with Tim, she'll be fine.

In the meantime, the mirror, also known as 'The Lasser Glass', is brought in for repairs, specifically for a hairline fracture in the bottom right corner of the glass. When she investigates the crack (alone), she implies that it was her doing and she begins seeing things.

She knows that the mirror is hungry.
5. Kaylie, seeking a back-up plan, creates a kill switch for the mirror that she attaches to which of these?

Answer: A kitchen timer

Kaylie and Tim bring the mirror in from Kaylie's car and it's apparent that Kaylie has put a lot of work into outfitting the office for her tests. In addition to setting up cameras, thermostats, alarms, and computers, she's hung a weighted 'kill switch' from the ceiling just in case something happens.

She plans to uncover the glass and record what happens. She plans to prove that the Lasser Glass contains an observable supernatural force. She starts discussing the history of the mirror, but starts to hallucinate, seeing her childhood dog running in the house. An alarm brings her back to reality.

When she finishes her history lesson, Tim can't seem to bring himself to just break the thing and do away with it. To be fair though, no one's been able to. Psychologically, their minds drift elsewhere when they consider getting close with a weapon. That's why Kaylie set the kill switch up on a timer.
6. Kaylie states that the mirror feeds off low-hanging fruit as well as people. Which of these is it quick to kill or ruin?

Answer: Plant matter

Very shortly after the move, Kaylie and Tim watched the gradual paranoia of their parents take hold. While their father started getting increasingly angry with what he believed to be their intrusion into his office space, their mother's plants also kept dying (and this is part of why Kaylie uses numerous plants in her tests).

The family dog, Mason, started to get sicker and more aggravated with the office before biting Marie. The kids had to listen through the constant arguments. One day, when Marie left the dog in the office to keep him quiet, Alan returned home and the family found that the dog had simply disappeared, not unlike other dogs around the mirror in the past.
7. According to Kaylie, there is not necessarily a way to figure out whether or not what you're seeing or thinking is real when you're under the influence of the mirror.

Answer: True

Kaylie and Tim both continue to argue over what they believe happened in the past, but Kaylie is adamant that his eleven years in a psychiatric hospital have been nothing more than brainwashing. When it appears that nothing has really happened, Kaylie ends up returning to the tapes to find that things have certainly been happening while they've been distracted. Plants have died; the cameras have moved; the temperature has shifted.

When they check the recording, it turns out that they ended up moving the items in the room around themselves and just never knew it. Tim later believes he went outside to make a call when, really, he never left the house.

It has them in its sphere of influence.
8. What was the name of the woman that Alan was allegedly seeing in the mirror?

Answer: Marisol

Things really escalated when Marie started believing that Alan was seeing a woman in his office, and both Kaylie and Tim believe they saw someone in the house. Marie later checked the office to find a sheet of paper with the name Marisol scrawled all over it, and it's during this time that the mirror pushed her over the brink. Marie went mad, chasing her kids to their room until Alan returned home and chained her up in one of the upper floor rooms. Over the coming days, as it becomes apparent that Alan is no longer leaving the house, the kids run out of food.

The kids later go upstairs and find their mother imprisoned and try to seek help only to be rebuffed by their neighbours.
9. With what did Tim and Kaylie try to destroy the mirror as kids?

Answer: Golf clubs

On their last fateful night in the house, the power went out and Tim went down to the office to find his father accompanied by the ghost of Marisol. That night, Alan loaded his revolver and freed Marie from her chains and the two of them sought out their kids to end it all. Kaylie escaped her mother by jumping from a second-storey window, making her way around to the front of the house, but when she went back inside to help Tim, Marie came to her senses, if only for a brief moment, leading Alan to shoot her.

This gave the kids the opportunity to attack the mirror with their father's golf clubs (to no avail). Soon after, the mirror released its grip on Alan as well, allowing Tim to shoot and kill him to save Kaylie. The shot, and Alan colliding with the mirror, caused it to crack.
10. Who is the only one to survive the mirror?

Answer: Tim

Tim and Kaylie continue to face the evil of the mirror and Kaylie gets wise to its ghostly tricks by using her phone to show what's real through its camera. When she turns and sees the ghostly image of her mother though, she lashes out at it and unexpectedly stabs her fiancee in the neck, killing him.

The two of them realize the horrible trouble they're in when the mirror exerts its power over them As Tim and Kaylie are roused from a waking nightmare by the sounds of Kaylie's alarms, Tim finds himself seated directly in front of the mirror.

He goes to hit the kill switch to destroy the object, but he doesn't see Kaylie directly in front of it, having still been influenced by the mirror. The weighted blade comes down on her as sirens begin to sound in the distance.

As Tim is led away from the house, he screams that it was the mirror's fault. The police car drives away as the ghosts in the house watch on. Kaylie's ghost stands with them.
