"A History of Violence" was directed by David Cronenberg, who has made lots of graphic horror films. This movie is set in a small town in Indiana and the main character, Tom Stall, appears to be a mild mannered shop owner. It is soon revealed that he has a sordid past and was in fact a violent mobster in his youth.

"Hostage" is yet another great Bruce Willis movie. It's the story of a burned out hostage negotiator Jeff Talley, who is to take on the job of negotiator again, when three teenagers decide to steal a car and break into an extremely large and well fortified property.

"XXX" is a rip roaring action movie with muscle man Vin Diesel, playing his usual hard man image with bells on! Rob Cohen directed this movie and the stunts are just mind blowing.

"The Patriot" is a terrific period costume movie, set among the 18th century revolutionary war between America and the British. It tells the story of a veteran of the French and Indian war, Benjamin Martin, who is left with seven children, after his wife dies in childbirth.

His oldest son wants to sign up and eventually does, much to the horror of his father. The blood bath that ensues has the veteran losing two of his sons.

"Collateral" is a great movie about a hitman who inveigles a cab driver to drive him around to take care of all of his hits for the night! Tom Cruise is excellent as Vincent, the cold calculating hitman, as is Jamie Foxx who plays the unsuspecting cab driver. The brilliant Michael Mann is the director.

"Heat" is the first time that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have ever acted together. The film tells the story of a lonely expert thief, Neil McCauley and a world weary LA detective, Vincent Hanna who longs for some direction in his life. The great Michael Mann is the director and the ending is so very poignant.

Al Pacino plays the part in "Heat" of the detective who is in charge of the investigation into an elaborate heist. The story is cleverly woven and you get an insight into the two mens' lives. The detective has been married twice and is heading for another divorce because he is never at home and the crook has no time for women because of his job.

At the end of the film, when the detective kills the crook, he realises that he had more in common with him than he had ever had with any of his wives.
