Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who created the musical soundtrack for "Raise the Titanic!"?

Answer: John Barry

John Barry also composed the scores for other such big name movies as "Dances With Wolves" and "Out of Africa." Randy Edelmann was the composer for the movie "Gettysburg".
2. What was the name of the Russian island that Koplin was on?

Answer: Svardloff

This is where the movie differed from the book. I do not want to give too many details from the book, but Svardloff was the name in the movie. It was significant because it was the only known place to find Byzanium.
3. The name of the man whose body was found in the mine was Brewster.

Answer: False

The man's name was Hobart. He was one of the Coloradans who mined the Byzanium. Pitt did a background check and found that the Hobart file mentioned Arthur Brewster, who was the leader of the group.
4. What was the name of the newspaper found in the mine?

Answer: Rocky Mountain News

Pitt said that Koplin knew the mine was run by Coloradans because he found a copy of the Rocky Mountain News dated sometime in 1911. He had also found tools that were made in Colorado.
5. What was the date on the newspaper found in the mine?

Answer: November 17, 1911

The movie never explained the date of November 17, 1911 which was found on the newspaper print. In the book, the date was the last recorded date of when the nine men from Colorado went into the Little Angel Mine. They were to fake their deaths because the operation to get the Byzanium was so top secret.
6. What was the name of the element needed for the Cecilian Project?

Answer: Byzanium

The U.S. government was working on the Cecilian Project by the authority of the President. Seagram stated that the properties of Byzanium were radioactive, and could be used in a defense shield which would stop any inbound missile targeting the U.S. When these power stations were activated, an invisible wall would be put up. Any missile would disintegrate after coming in contact with this "wall".
7. Who did Pitt say opened the mine on Svardloff?

Answer: Coloradans

All of the items, including mining tools, were said to be from Colorado. This included the newspaper copy of the Rocky Mountain News.
8. What did Bigelow give Pitt to place back on board the Titanic?

Answer: pennant

Near the end of this scene, Bigelow gave Pitt a pennant that came from the stern of the ship. Holding back tears, he said, "If you manage to bring her up again, I trust you will put it back where it belongs".
9. What was the name of the submersible which flooded, and then imploded?

Answer: Starfish

Starfish was only ordered to go to 12,000 ft. When it went even lower, the sub sprang a leak and the pressure of the sea poured into it. Helpless, the Turtle could only watch as the Starfish sunk lower and lower, eventually imploding and killing its crew.
10. What part of the Titanic was missing?

Answer: smokestack

When they tried the experiment with the smokestack, the model in the water had landed exactly in the spot where the computers say they should have found it. Seagram stated that when they tested a model in the water with proportional weight and dimensions as the Titanic, they failed to "take in account the smokestack that cracked off as the Titanic went down".

When they tried it without the smokestack, they found that the ship landed 10 miles southeast of where they were looking.
