Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song is being played at the start of the film?

Answer: "Ghost Town" (The Specials)

It was being played on the pub's jukebox while Shaun and Liz were having a drink. The song was written as a protest to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's way of running the UK, which involved putting lots of people out of business, including miners.
2. Which one of these points was totally unimportant to the plot of the movie, and was in no way related to anything else that occurred in the film?

Answer: Ed wanting a cornetto (Ice cream)

That part of the film confused me a little. When Shaun was going down the shop, he asked a half-alseep Ed what he wanted. "Cornetto" was Ed's answer, but as to why he wanted an ice cream when he's just woken up remains unanswered.
3. What is the name of Shaun's girlfriend?

Answer: Liz

Liz is played by Kate Ashfield, who was also in "Soldier Soldier" (TV programme) back in 1991, "Guest House Paradiso" (Film) in 1999 and more recently "Crime and Punishment" (TV one-off drama) in 2002.
4. Who plays Shaun in the film?

Answer: Simon Pegg

Dylan Moran plays David, Bill Nighy plays Philip and Nick Frost played Ed. Simon Pegg also wrote this film. He also starred in and co-wrote "Spaced", a channel 4 sitcom shown between 1999 and 2001. He played would-be graphic designer Tim. Nick Frost was also in "Spaced".

He played would-be soldier Mike, who got kicked out of the Territorial Army after he stole a tank and tried to invade Paris.
5. What was the original idea for the film's title?

Answer: Tea-Time Of The Dead

This is mentioned on the bonus subtitles that give little pieces of trivia throughout the film. Eventually, they decided to play on the film title "Dawn Of The Dead", and came up with "Shaun Of The Dead".
6. When Shaun asks Ed to give examples of the "Rich, interesting people" in the Winchester, who does Ed point to first?

Answer: Snakehips

What Ed says about the man known as Snakehips is:
"He's a serial bigamist. Strangled his first wife with a draught excluder , AND invented the mobile disco!"
7. Does Ed's plan for what to do after Liz dumps Shaun have any other reference to anything in the film?

Answer: yes

What he says is: "We'll have a Bloody Mary first thing, have a bite at the King's Head, have a couple at The Little Princess, stagger back here and be back at the bar for shots. How's THAT for a piece of fried gold?" These have significance to other parts of the film because:

A 'Bloody Mary' (The checkout girl in their backyard)
A Bite At The King's Head (A Zombie Bites Philips' Neck)
A Couple (Picking Up David & Diane)
The Little Princess (Picking Up Liz)
Stagger Back (Pretending To Be Zombies)
Bar For Shots (The Rifle Above The Bar)
8. Which character gives a big clue as to what the final scene of the film is, without realising it?

Answer: Pete

What he says to Ed is "You wanna be an animal? Why don't you go live in the shed?" After Ed dies and becomes a zombie, Shaun keeps him in the shed playing Playstation two games all the time.
9. The trivia subtitles thoughout the film tell us that the main characters' names loosely rhyme with their fates.

Answer: true

This sounds weird, but it's true.

Shaun is "Reborn"
Liz "Lives"
Dave is sent to the "Grave"
Di "Dies" (Side note: although the trivia subtitles say she dies, if you go onto the plotholes section of the DVD you will see that she climbed up a tree, and ate David's leg to survive.)
Barbara becomes a "Cadaver"
Phil gets "Killed"
Pete gets "Eat" (Should be eaten, but {A}Eaten dosen't rhyme with Pete, and {B}It says 'eat' on the DVD)

Not very good, but according to Simon Pegg, it's true.
10. Shaun explains his plan about how to survive the zombie invasion to Ed, and we see how Shaun imagines it will go. What is written on Shaun's mug the FIRST time we see this?

Answer: I am a genius

The plan was to:

1} Take Pete's car.
2} Go round Mum's house and get Mum, along with killing Philip, who they assumed was now a zombie.
3} Go to Liz's flat and wait for the invasion to stop.

It was a good plan, but Ed didn't want to hole up at Liz's, as he didn't know where the exits were, and he wouldn't be allowed to smoke. The seond time round, it was all the same, except they'd get Liz and bring everyone back to their house. They scrapped this after realising the house wasn't safe. After asking themselves "Where's safe? Where's secure?" "Where can I smoke?" They decided to hole up in The Winchester.
