Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. WALL-E saves various objects from among the mounds of trash on Earth and arranges them in his shelter. What object does he find that he is uncertain where to place in his collection?

Answer: A Spork

That bizarre hybrid of a spoon and a fork that is frequently encountered in school cafeterias and fast food restaurants. WALL-E wavers between putting the spork with the forks or with the spoons, and finally sets it between the two.
2. What is the musical that WALL-E watches repeatedly?

Answer: Hello, Dolly

You had to watch the credits to find this out, unless you recognized it in the film. The two songs used were "Put on Your Sunday Clothes", which was chosen for its refrain of "out there", and "It Only Takes a Moment", which has the hand holding scene which is such an influence on WALL-E in his quest for love.
3. What toy is seen among the "treasures" that WALL-E recovered from the trash heaps?

Answer: A plastic dinosaur

The dinosaur is "Rex" from the movie "Toy Story". It's a Pixar trademark to sprinkle their films with references to other Pixar films. The wrong answers are also toys featured in "Toy Story".
4. When we first see Captain McCrae of the spaceship Axiom, he is upset that Auto the Autopilot did not wake him up for what?

Answer: Morning announcements

The captain complains about not being woken up because morning announcements are the one thing he gets to do on the ship. This is an indication of how much humans have relinquished control of their own lives.
5. Who directed the film?

Answer: Andrew Stanton

Stanton both wrote and directed the movie. He also directed "Finding Nemo" and "A Bug's Life". Docter directed "Monster's Inc", and Lesseter directed the "Toy Story" movies. Michael Bey is the director of big budget spectacles such as "Pearl Harbor" and "Transformers".
6. What is the designation on the large trash compactors aboard the Axiom, which almost crush WALL-E?

Answer: WALL-A

This stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter, Axiom Class. They are essentially much larger versions of WALL-E, whose E stands for Earth Class.
7. What can be seen in the background of the pictures of all of the Axiom's captains?

Answer: Auto the Autopilot

After Auto starts refusing to obey the Captain, we again see the pictures of the previous captains. This time, we see how Auto is lurking behind them ominously. Auto's glowing red eye is a reference to the HAL 9000 computer from "2001: A Space Odyssey", another machine that starts refusing human orders and becomes a threat.
8. What is the name of the couple on the ship who meet, thanks to WALL-E?

Answer: John and Mary

John and Mary meet when they are watching WALL-E and EVE flying outside of the spaceship, after WALL-E narrowly avoids being blown up in the escape pod. They are later seen frolicking together in the ship's pool, and then saving the children when Auto tips the ship on its side. John is voiced by John Ratzenberger, who is best known for his role as Cliff on the TV show "Cheers", and who has had a role in every previous Pixar film. Mary is voiced by Kathy Najimy, who is the voice of Peggy Hill on the animated series "King of the Hill".
9. What veteran of science fiction films provides the voice for the ship's computer?

Answer: Sigourney Weaver

Among Weaver's science fiction credentials are the roles of Ellen Ripley in the "Alien" series of films and of Gwen DeMarco in "Galaxy Quest", where her only job on the ship was to talk to the computer. She was also the voice of a ship's computer on an episode of the animated TV show "Futurama".
10. What does Captain McCrae tell the children they are going to be great at back on Earth?

Answer: Farming

He puts the boot with the plant in the ground and explains to the assembled crowd that it's called farming, and the kids are going to be great at it: growing, among other things, pizza plants. In the end credits of the film, we see WALL-E and EVE sitting beneath a large tree that has grown from the plant in the boot.
