"Diana" sold over 1,250,000 copies in the UK and has sold in excess of 10,000,000 copies world wide. Anka wrote among other songs, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" (Buddy Holly) and "She's A Lady" (Tom Jones). He also wrote the English lyrics for "My Way" (Frank Sinatra).
2. Who is telling lies in this song? "I've gotta stand tall You know a man can't crawl But when he knows you're tellin' lies And he hears them passing' by He's not a man at all"

Answer: Cathy

"Cathy's Clown" was written by Don Everly/Phil Everly. It was number one for five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 for The Everly Brothers in 1960. It was number one for seven weeks on the UK singles chart the same year.

"Cathy's Clown" was The Everly Brothers' first and only US number one hit for Warner Bros., their new record label. They had left Cadence Records and signed a $1,000,000 contract with Warner Bros. payable over 10 years. They had three US number one hits on the Cadence record label. In the UK it was a complete reverse, they had one number one hit on the Cadence/London record label and three number one hits on the Warner Bros. record label. Only "All I Have To Do Dream" & "Cathy's Clown" were number one hits on both charts.
3. Oh Oh, he's in love with his friend's girl according to these lyrics. Who is she? "He talked and talked and I heard him say That she had the longest blackest hair The prettiest green eyes anywhere"

Answer: Marie

"(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame" was written by Doc Pomus/Mort Shuman. It peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 for Elvis Presley in 1961. It was a double A-Sided number one hit with "Little Sister" for four weeks on the UK singles chart the same year.

In the US Elvis Presley had hit the top spot 16 times between 1956 (Heartbreak Hotel) and 1961 ("Surrender"). "(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame" was his ninth UK number one hit and his fifth UK number one hit that entered the UK singles chart in a 12 month period from 3 November 1960 to 2 November 1961. Those five number one hits were "It's Now Or Never" (1960), "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" (1961), "Wooden Heart" (1961), "Surrender" (1961) and "(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame" (1961).
4. This guy has definitely got on the wrong side of the woman who says these words. Who is she trying to get rid of? "Whoa Woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen I guess if you said so I'd have to pack my things and go"

Answer: Jack

"Hit The Road Jack" was written by Percy Mayfield. It was number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 for Ray Charles in 1961. It peaked at number six on the UK singles chart the same year.

In the US Ray Charles had three number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, they were "Georgia On My Mind" (1960), "Hit The Road Jack" (1961) and " I Can't Stop Loving You" (1962). In the UK his solo number one hit was the Don Gibson penned "I Can't Stop Loving You" (1962). Don Gibson had a number seven hit with "I Can't Stop Lovin' You" on the Billboard Country chart in 1958. It peaked at number 81 on the Billboard Top 100 the same year.
5. Who is the boy that this singer wishes would at least, notice her? "How I love him He's got something that I can't resist But he doesn't even know that I exist"

Answer: Johnny

"Johnny Angel" was written by Lyn Duddy/Lee Pockriss. It was number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 for Shelley Fabares in 1962. It peaked at number 41 on the UK singles chart the same year.

The song was originally released by both Georgia Lee (Mar 1960) and Laurie Loman (May 1960). Both versions failed to chart and neither singer ever had a hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Although Shelley Fabares starred in three of Elvis Presley's movies "Girl Happy" (1965), "Spinout" (1966) and "Clambake" (1967), she never had another Top 20 hit. Elvis said that she was his favourite actress of those that he had worked with. How ironic was it, that he knocked her off the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Good Luck Charm" in 1962.
6. It's this girl's party and would you believe it, her boyfriend has disappeared with Judy. Will these lyrics help you to find the name of this utter cad? "But Judy left the same time Why was he holding her hand When he's supposed to be mine"

Answer: Johnny

"It's My Party" was written by Walter Gold/John Gluck Jr./Herb Weiner/Seymour Gottlieb. It was number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 for Lesley Gore in 1963. It peaked at number nine on the UK singles chart the same year.

"It's My Party" was original recorded by The Chiffons for their 1962 album "One Fine Day". If only they had released it as a single, "He's So Fine" may not have been their only US number one hit. Quincy Jones was the producer of Lesley Gore's version of the song and he heard that Phil Spector was going to record it with The Crystals. Lesley Gore's version was rush released and the rest as they say is history. It was the only US number one hit that Lesley Gore had.
7. What was the name of the girl cheating on her boyfriend in this Beach Boys' song? "I never thought a guy could cry 'Til you made it with another guy"

Answer: Wendy

"Wendy" was written by Brian Wilson/Mike Love. It peaked at number 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 for The Beach Boys in 1964. It did not chart in the UK.

"Wendy" was first released on The Beach Boys 1964 album "All Summer Long" which peaked at number four on the Billboard album chart. It was released later in 1964 on the EP "4-By The Beach Boys". The tracks on the EP are, Side one: 1."Wendy", 2."Don't Back Down", Side two: 1."Little Honda", 2."Hushabye". Although several EP's by The Beach Boys were released in the UK, "4-By The Beach Boys" was the one and only Beach Boys' EP released in the USA.
8. "Three cheers for the cheating wench in this song. Who is she? "She tells them that she loves them and then says goodbye Hooray for ______, I'm now on her list I'm just another fool that couldn't resist"

Answer: Hazel

"Hooray For Hazel" was written by Tommy Roe. It peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 for Tommy Roe in 1966. It did not chart in the UK.

In my opinion Tommy Roe has unfairly been put into the bubblegum music genre, it's classic period ran from 1967 to 1972. Tommy Roe had his first hit in 1962 when "Sheila" was number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. He had three more Top 10 hits before 1967. His 1969 number one hit "Dizzy" may have lumped him in with the likes of The Archies, The 1910 Fruitgum Company and The Ohio Express. Bubblegum music makes you think of producer driven assembly-line hits but I think Tommy Roe had much more to offer.
9. This girl is shaking this guy's confidence and breaking his heart but now he's laughing about it. Who is this woman? "Jubilation, she loves me again I fall on the floor and I'm laughing Jubilation, she loves me again I fall on the floor and I'm laughing"

Answer: Cecilia

"Cecilia" was written by Paul Simon. It peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 for Simon & Garfunkel in 1970. It did not chart in the UK where it was misspelt as "Cecelia".

"Cecilia" was the third track to be released as a single from Simon & Garfunkel's 1970 album "Bridge over Troubled Water". Altogether eight tracks from the album were released as A or B-Sides, "The Boxer"/"Baby Driver" (1969), "Bridge Over Troubled Water"/"Keep The Customer Satisfied" (1970), "Cecilia"/"The Only Living Boy In New York" (1970) and "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)"/"Why Don't You Write Me" (1970). All four of the A-Sides made the Billboard Top 20. It may have been cheaper to buy the album.
10. He was fifteen and she was twelve and she loved him so much. He went away and now she has seen him again and wonders if he remembers her at all. Who could he be? "He looked at me and then I blushed 'Cause I remembered I loved you so much. Way back then we were friends going together But then you left me"

Answer: Frankie

"Frankie" was written by Denise Rich. It peaked at number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 for Sister Sledge in 1985. It was number one for four weeks on the UK singles chart the same year.

Sister Sledge, Debra, Kathy, Kim and Joni Sledge were from Philadelphia. They fall into that group of singers who are more popular in the UK than in their homeland, such as Buddy Holly & The Crickets, Eddie Cochran and Del Shannon, who all had more Top 10 hits in the UK. In the US Sister Sledge had two Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, in the UK they had five Top 10 hits on the singles chart plus five more Top 20 hits between 1975 and 1993 when three of their previous hits were re-mixed, re-released and made the Top 20 again.
