Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "School's Out" was a big song in 1972 for whom?

Answer: Alice Cooper

The song was on the album of the same name. It reached number two on the US charts when it was released, and was named number 319 on "Rolling Stone" magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
2. From what song does the line "We don't need no education" come from?

Answer: Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)

"Another Brick in the Wall" (Parts I, II, and III) all appeared on Pink Floyd's 1979 album "The Wall". "(Part II)" was the most well-known of the three parts and was the band's only number one hit in the UK and the US. It also received a Grammy nomination for "Best Performance by a Rock Duo or Group".
3. Which band recorded the 1984 song "Hot for Teacher"?

Answer: Van Halen

The song was on the album "1984", released in, obviously, 1984. It reached only number 56 on Billboard's Hot 100. "Hot for Teacher" was featured in the movie "Varsity Blues", when the main characters discovered one of their teachers was moonlighting as a stripper.
4. What song does the following lyric come from: "Ditched my lecture to watch the girls play soccer. Is my picture still hanging in her locker?"

Answer: Going Away to College

The song is by Blink 182 and was on their third studio album "Enema of the State" (1999).
5. "Beauty School Dropout" was a song from which movie?

Answer: Grease

"Grease" (1978) starred John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing and Jeff Conaway. The movie was about high school kids in the 1950's.

Frenchie (played by Didi Conn) decided to drop out of high school and attend beauty school. Unfortunately she was horrible. Her guardian angel, Frankie Avalon, appeared to her and sang "Beauty School Dropout" to convince her to go back to high school.
6. Which song does the following lyric come from: "I don't care about history... 'cause that's not where I want to be"?

Answer: Rock and Roll High School

This was a Ramones' song from the 1979 movie of the same name. The Ramones and their music were featured in the movie - they helped the kids take over the school and overthrow the rock-hating principal.
7. What band/artist sings the following lyrics: "When you go to school, don't forget your books, you know you've got to learn the golden rule"?

Answer: Supertramp

The song was simply called "School" and was on Supertramp's 1974 album "Crime of the Century".
8. What band has recorded the songs "Never Means Forever", "Hired Guns" and "Your Eyes, Your Lies"?

Answer: Broken Heart University

Oddly enough, the only existing information about this band anywhere on the internet appears to be lyrics only. They don't even seem to have an official site or a MySpace.

Lyrics can be found at http://www.lyricsandsongs.com/lyrics/BROKEN_HEART_UNIVERSITY.html
9. The music video for what song takes place in a high school gym, with cheerleaders wearing Anarchy symbols leading a pep rally?

Answer: Smells Like Teen Spirit

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" was, of course, Nirvana's hugely successful 1991 song from the "Nevermind" album. Nirvana won two MTV Video Awards in 1992 with this video, for "Best New Artist" and "Best Alternative Group", and according to the "Guinness Book of World Records" (2000) it was the most played video on MTV Europe.
10. The song "San Dimas High School Football Rules" belongs to which band?

Answer: The Ataris

The song has been on several Ataris' albums. The first release was on their 1998 album "Look Forward to Failure" but became more popular on their 1999 album "Blue Skies and Broken Hearts... Next 12 Exits". The title comes from a line from the 1989 movie "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure".

It's one of those songs that has a completely random title - the rest of the song has nothing to do with it whatsoever.
11. Which band sings the song "The Freshmen"?

Answer: The Verve Pipe

It is from their 1996 album "Villains" and reached number one on the charts that year. Lead singer Brian Vander Ark explained (as stated on www.songfacts.com) that the song was about his ex-girlfriend who had an abortion; in the song, the girl commits suicide, in real life she did not.
12. Which band sings the following lyrics: "First day of school and I'm already failing, this is me in grade nine baby"?

Answer: Barenaked Ladies

It was from their 1992 album "Gordon", the same album that most of their very famous songs were from, such as "Brian Wilson" and "If I Had a $1,000,000". "Grade Nine" was about how awkward the first year of high school is.
13. Which of the following bands covered Chuck Berry's "School Days"?

Answer: AC/DC

It can be found on their 1993 album "TNT". It originally appeared on Chuck Berry's 1962 album "Chuck Berry Twist".
14. Which boy band had a song called "Yearbook"?

Answer: Hanson

Hanson was comprised of brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zach Hanson from Tulsa, Oklahoma. They enjoyed modest success in the late '90s - early 00's, but were greatly overshadowed by other huge boy bands of that era. "Yearbook" was from their 1997 breakthrough album "Middle of Nowhere".
15. What is the title of this song by Vitamin C: "If we get the big jobs and we make the big money, when we look back now will our jokes still be funny? Will we still remember everything we learned in school, still be trying to break every single rule?" ?

Answer: Graduation

It appeared on her 1999 self-titled album. The full title is "Graduation (Friends Forever)" and reached number 38 on the Billboard chart when it was released. Vitamin C's real name is Colleen Fitzpatrick.
