Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On the 'Live at Sine' EP, Buckley tells us what 'Mojo Pin', is about. He says: 'This is a song about a _______'?

Answer: Dream

If you're a fan of 'Grace' and haven't heard 'Live at Sine' you really should put it high up on your purchase list. It contains original recordings from a cafe where Buckley used to go and play by himself. What I like to call the good old days.
2. In the album's title track, 'Grace', what does Jeff say he can feel 'them' do to his name? The lyric comes in the last verse.

Answer: Drown

'Grace' is a track that one should really see performed live if possible. Unfortunately I've had to settle for the recording of him playing live in Chicago. Those of you who actually managed to see him play before he died will be forever on my jealousy list.
3. The song 'Last Goodbye' was used as part of the soundtrack in which film starring Tom Cruise?

Answer: Vanilla Sky

This is the only time I can recall hearing a Buckley song used in a film. If anyone has heard another one I'd appreciate a note.
4. 'Lilac Wine' was originally performed by which legendary jazz and blues singer?

Answer: Nina Simone

When I first started playing guitar I thought this would be an easy Buckley track to learn. I looked at the sheet music and discovered not only is the song in a different tuning than normal, but it also has about a million different chord shapes. I still can't play it three years later.
5. 'So Real', is an interesting track musically because it uses two different time signatures at various points switching between four beats to a bar and three beats to a bar.

Answer: True

The moment in the middle of this track where Jeff just lets his guitar wail is incredible. I don't know how he got that sound out of his guitar.
6. 'Hallelujah' was originally written by Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley is not the only one to have covered it. Rufus Wainwright had his version used at the end of an animated movie. Which one?

Answer: Shrek

Buckley really made the song his own when he covered it. Recently I heard Damien Rice perform it live as well.
7. 'Lover, You Should Have Come Over', is my favourite on the album. What is the last line of the song?

Answer: Because it's not too late.

There's an extra long version of this song on the 'Live at Sine' album which has an entire new verse. Very worth listening to for any fan.
8. 'Corpus Christi Carol' is another cover track. This one, however, is much more unusual as the original was written in a different century! Which century was the original carol written in?

Answer: 16th

Sorry to throw in a numbers question but I find it remarkable that a songwriter would choose to resurrect a piece like this so far in the future. Buckley's piece was based on Benjamin Britten's 1933 interpretation of a very old song. The song really shows off Buckley's awesome vocal range and serves as a lovely contrast to the next track.
9. 'Eternal Life' is by far the loudest track on the album and is a real eye-opener compared to the gentle tones of 'Corpus Christi Carol'. On the 'Mystery White Boy' album, however, is an even heavier version called?

Answer: Road version

Jeff really loses it half way through the road version and just starts shouting. There's also a much quieter version on the 'Live at Sine' EP which I actually prefer. It is nice to hear Jeff let loose occasionally though!
10. As well as featuring as a track on the album, is 'Dream Brother' also the title of a biography about Jeff and his father Tim?

Answer: Yes

I've never got round to reading the book myself but someday I will. Thanks very much for doing the quiz. Now go listen to the album, drink a cup of coffee and smoke a cigarette, unless you don't smoke in which case don't start, it's very bad for you.
