1. Billy Cobham is famous for the power, feel, and diversity of his drumming. He has played with fusion greats like John McLaughlin, and rock greats like the Grateful Dead and Peter Gabriel. Which jazz pioneer did Billy play with early in his career?

Answer: Miles Davis

Billy got his start with the Horace Silvers band after he got out of the army. A few years later he was invited by Miles Davis to play on some of his records, including the great "Bitches Brew".
2. The great rock drummer Neil Peart has spent most of his career playing with the band Rush. Starting with the album "Fly by Night", what other band function did Neil show a great talent towards?

Answer: writing lyrics

Neil's lyrics propelled the band to new levels, and eventually Neil took over writing most lyrics for the band. Playing keyboards was left up to bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee. Producing albums was done by various people, and as for background vocals, well Rush did not seem to have much of a need.
