Matt Redman read Psalm 103 and admired the Psalmist reasons that kept flowing about the goodness of God. He thought of the song "Amazing Grace", where people sang for 10,000 years and still could describe all of God's love for His people. "10,000 Reasons" was the result of Redman tying the two inspirations together.

After its release in 2012, the song became rated number one on United States music charts and number 149 on United Kingdom charts. "10,000 Reasons" was nominated for the song of the year at the first K-LOVE Christian music awards in 2012.

Matt Redman was passionate about being an active church planter. He helped start several churches in the United States and the United Kingdom. One of which was a church he helped Chris Tomlin start in Atlanta, Georgia. After this church was successful, the Redman family moved to the United Kingdom and began work in Brighton.

After writing "Fires", Matt Redman reflected that many people don't have to go far in the world to be bombarded with the negative news and attitudes about the events going on. Most of these things drain people emotionally. However in writing this song, he wanted the Christian to realize that God has called them to maintain a different mindset. He is able to fulfill the needs in their lives and give them joy.

One of Matt Redman's testimonies was how God encouraged him and his wife through the difficult aftermath of a miscarriage, during the same time London experienced a terrorist bombing. In his song "Never Once", he talks about God's faithfulness even though there may be scars and struggles in our lives.

Although the miscarriage was a difficult time, Matt and his wife Beth were blessed with five healthy children.

While he was watching a rescue event in world news, Redman was inspired to write "Where Would We Be". In Chile, thirty three miners were trapped in a cave in. It took two months, but eventually all the miners were rescued. The situation reminded Redman to how people are trapped in sin, but God delivers them from the darkest and lowest point of their lives. Because of God's grace, they can be rescued and live eternally.

Matt Redman's career has taken him on tours in many countries of the world. Some of his tours included the countries of South Africa, Japan, India, Australia, Germany and the Czech Republic. Redman shared that he believes God is the cure for many situations that drag Christian's down in their spiritual walk and lives.

In writing the song "We Could Change the World", Redman wanted Christians to realize that if they could grasp the capacity of what God can do it would change the way they approach things.

It would also change the way they witness to others.

Redman experienced many tough points in his life, many occurring during his childhood. His dad committed suicide when he was seven and his step father was abusive to his family. However these experiences drew Matt closer to God. In his lifetime God was his comfort in many tough situations. In "O This God", Redman described God as being strong and a light to our lives, starting out with the verse:

Redman was amazed by all the technology there was to view planets, stars, and the furthest corners of the universe that God created, through telescopes. He also thought of the effect of microscopes to see the small things that are invisible to the naked eye. Finally, he thought of God's design of the human bodies. He came to the conclusion that all of creation reflects the majesty of God and how wonderful He is.

The chorus Majesty reflects the praise that came to Redman's heart:

Matt Redman was inspired to write this song from Revelation 21:3-4. "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away'".

The song describes how saints will praise God in heaven because He has redeemed them from sin, pain, and suffering during their life on earth.
