2. Where did the Beatles perform their very first concert in the U.S.?

Answer: Washington, D.C.

The Beatles very first concert in the states was held at the Washington Coliseum in D.C. on February 11, 1964. This was only two days after their appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and had three warm up acts - Jay and the Americans, Tommy Roe and The Righteous Brothers.

The Chiffons were originally scheduled to appear but cancelled due to a large snowstorm that was bearing down on The Nation's Capital.
3. Of the four musicians listed below, which was the first to 'join' The 27 Club?

All four of these were the original MTV VJ's along with Nina Blackwood. The second video to air was "You Better Run" by Pat Benatar. Due to the popularity of this new channel there was a flurry of new videos made in a short period of time (some of them quite bizarre!).
6. Who was the first commercially successful all-white act to sign with the Motown record label having nine singles in the US Billboard Hot 100 between 1970 and 1978?

Although Rare Earth was not the first white act signed by Motown they were the first successful one with songs such as "Get Ready" (1970) which reached #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA; "(I Know) I'm Losing You" (1970) peaked at #7 on the chart; "I Just Want to Celebrate" (1971) also went all the way to #7 on the chart; "Born to Wander" (1971) reached as high as #17; and "Hey, Big Brother" (1971) got as high as #19 on the Billboard chart.

There is debate about who the very first all-white act to sign with the label was. Aside from the artists listed above, other names being debated are Kiki Dee, Chris Clark, The Rustix and The Dalton Boys.
7. Which recording artist was awarded the very first Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) gold record with his song "Catch a Falling Star"?

Answer: Perry Como

The Gold Record was awarded for sales reaching 1,000,000 copies. Como became the first in 1958 with his hit single recording. Some record labels presented their own Gold Record award for sales over one million. The very first of these independent awards was to Elvis Presley by the RCA label for his recording of "Don't Be Cruel" in 1956.
8. When "American Bandstand" made its national broadcast debut on August 5, 1957 this singer performed the first song called "Diana". Who was the artist?

Answer: Paul Anka

Dick Clark was the host and the show aired in Philadelphia on WFIL-TV. The series was highly successful and there were approximately 3000 episodes that aired up until 1989. The show eventually would move to Los Angeles and went from 90 minute broadcasts to 60 minutes. The majority of the episodes were aired on ABC.
9. On the Beatles "Abbey Road" album cover, assuming all four lads kept walking without changing their order, - which Beatle would be the first to 'cross the road' to the other side?

Answer: John

The order of The Beatles walking across the zebra walkway in Abbey Road is John, Ringo, Paul and George. The album was released on September 26, 1969 and was the only Beatles album produced without The Beatles name or the album title appearing on the album cover.
10. Halftime shows during the first 25 years of the Super Bowl were mostly college marching bands, drill teams or different theatrical performances such as "Up With People". All that changed on January 27, 1991 for Super Bowl XXV's halftime program which featured the first popular music act. Who was the artist/group that performed that day?
