Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who played bass for Our Lady Peace on all the studio albums they've recorded from "Clumsy"(1997) to "Healthy in Paranoid Times"(2005)?

Answer: Duncan Coutts

Duncan Coutts was actually the original bassist for OLP when Mike Turner put the band together. He left the band before they recorded their first album "Naveed"(1994). Chris Eacrett played bass for that album, but then left the band and Duncan rejoined.
2. Who took over bass duty in Metallica when Cliff Burton died?

Answer: Jason Newsted

Burton joined Metallica in 1983, as the replacement for their original bassist Ron McGovney. Cliff was killed on September 27, 1986 in Sweden when the band's tour bus skidded off the road. He was thrown out the bus window and then crushed by the vehicle when it landed on top of him.

The driver of the bus claimed to have hit a patch of black ice; however, it was suspected that he had been drinking. Jason Newsted was Metallica's bassist from 1986 until 2001, and Rob Trujillo was selected as his replacement in 2003.
3. Which member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers plays the bass?

Answer: Flea

Flea, born Michael Balzary, has been the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers since the band's formation in 1983. He is most known for his funky slap-bass technique, but he has also acted in several movies, including "The Big Lebowski"(1998), "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"(1998), and "Psycho"(1998).
4. Who was the bassist in the Beatles?

Answer: Paul McCartney

Paul was mainly a bass player throughout his career, but for his first solo album "McCartney"(1970), he played every instrument used in the recording, as well as sang lead vocals.
5. Who was the first person to win the "Bass Player of the Year" award more than once?

Answer: Victor Wooten

Wooten won the "Bass Player Magazine" award three times in a row. He toured and recorded as a solo act, as well as with many bands, including Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
6. Izzy Stradlin played bass in Guns N' Roses.

Answer: False

Izzy Stradlin played rhythm guitar for GNR from 1985 to 1991. Duff McKagan was Guns N' Roses' bassist and is the bassist for Velvet Revolver, the band he formed with fellow ex-GNR members, Matt Sorum and Slash.
7. Noel Redding played bass in which band?

Answer: The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Redding was primarily a guitarist, including in his own band, the Noel Redding Band, though he played bass for Hendrix's band. This has got to be a prime example of the guitarist getting way more exposure than the bassist.
8. Who has not played bass in the Rolling Stones?

Answer: Mick Avory

Mick Avory played drums for the Rolling Stones, shortly before becoming the drummer of The Kinks. Dick Taylor was an early member of the Stones, who originally played guitar but got demoted to bass when Brian Jones joined the band. Bill Wyman is probably the best known Rolling Stones' bass player.

He was on bass duty from 1962 to 1993. Since his departure from the band, Keith Richards has assumed the bassist position from time to time, trading off with Mick Jagger and Ron Wood, rather than hiring a new bass player.
9. Mike Dirnt plays bass for Green Day and which other band?

Answer: The Network

The Network is a Green Day side project. In this band, they play New Wave, pop-electronica type music and Mike Dirnt goes by the name Van Gough.
10. Okay, so sometimes the bass players do get a lot of credit. Which of these was not mainly a bass player?

Answer: Alex Lifeson, in Rush

Alex Lifeson was the lead guitarist of Rush. Geddy Lee played bass.
