While Doug Sampson certainly upped the irons for a couple of years on drums, guitarist Paul Samson never played with Iron Maiden. Samson started his own band, named after himself, which included future Maideners Clive Burr and Bruce Dickinson.

Frankie Banali may be, in fact, the only rock musician in the history of music to have never played in Whitesnake whose former members include everyone from Campbell (Def Leppard and Dio) and Dunbar (Journey and Frank Zappa) to Steve Vai (David Lee Roth) and Jon Lord (Deep Purple). Banali was the drummer for the most successful Quiet Riot lineup in the 80s and on several of WASP's LPs from 1989 on.

Thanks to a reputation for being a bit difficult to work with, Dave Mustaine has seen many musicians come and go through the Megadeth doors. One who hasn't is Kreator lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miland "Mille" Petrozza. While Kreator and Megadeth have surely shared many a stage on a given night, Petrozza has never played for Mustaine's band.

For a band that seems to tag most of its musicians with great nicknames, you'd think Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth would fit right in, but Motorhead could have only one singer, and NO ONE was taking that job from Lemmy. One name you won't find in any of their lineups is Udo Dirkschneider, but any real classic heavy metal fan can tell you who he is. You know him as the diminutive lead singer of Accept and UDO. Out of the four J's (Jizzy, John, James, and...um...Juan), only James LoMenzo has not played in Ratt. He did cut his teeth as the bassist in another famous hair metal band, White Lion, but he has since moved on to other heavier endeavors, including Megadeth and Black Label Society.

Interestingly, though, there are five other former members of Ratt, not already mentioned, whose names start with "J", so if James ever does need a job, I know where he should start.

Yes, Tracii Guns was in the band. No, he didn't last long. Yes, Buckethead is a real person. No, he isn't in the band anymore either. Nor is Mike Inez, but he never was in GnR at all. The bassist has been in every other band it would seem, including Black Label Society, Alice in Chains, Heart, and Ozzy Osbourne.

He even teamed up with Slash in Snakepit. Unlike so, so, so many others, however, he's lucky enough to have never worked for Axl Rose.

Most people know Dave Sabo from Skid Row. But, did you know he toured with Anthrax while Anthrax's regular guitarist Paul Crook toured with Sebastian Bach in 2000? Carlos Cavazo hasn't toured with either band, however. The Mexican-born lead guitarist Cavazo has been busy with Quiet Riot and Ratt, among other projects.

The list of musicians who have worked with Ronnie James Dio is a veritable who's who of rock 'n roll. His solo work alone has been backed by some of the most recognizable names in the industry, including Pilson, Sarzo, and Appice. Yes, Cozy Powell has worked with RJD, but never as a member of Dio. Powell backed Mr. Dio as the drummer for Rainbow during their most successful years, but left for other pastures like the Michael Schenker Group, Whitesnake, and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer before very briefly reuniting with RJD in Black Sabbath.
