Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Porcupine Tree have been around for many years now but they have only just started to get the recognition they deserve. Their album, 'The Incident', has only one 14 part song. What was the inspiration behind this song?

Answer: A car crash

The inspiration for this song came when stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident. The drama and tragedy behind accidents makes it strange and ironic that the police call these occurences 'incidents'.
2. This band has always been very competent musically. Their keyboardist, Richard Barbier, was in a very famous band in the 80s. What band was this?

Answer: Japan

He also went on to play with Mick Karn and David Jansen for a while after.
3. Who is the founding member of this band?

Answer: Steven Wilson

This is a man who is self taught on guitar and piano.
4. What are the names of the two drummers that have played in Porcupine Tree?

Answer: Chris Maitland and Gavin Harrison

PT fans are still arguing over who is the better drummer. I think they were both great although Gavin has a definite edge.
5. An early and very popular apocolyptic song of the band's is about man playing with a very dangerous toy. What type of toy is it?

Answer: Radioactive Toy

There are many different versions. The live version on the DVD, 'Arriving Somewhere', does it for me though.
6. The bassist, Colin Edwin, was also involved in a band whose name reminds us of the end of things. What is the name?

Answer: Ex Wise Heads

Colin Edwin has played several basses but favours his Musicman Bongo nowadays. You will find it hard to see him on stage without a hat too.
7. Steve has worked on so many other products that it is amazing he finds time to breath! He was asked to help this band in a time of emergency. They had been let down by the studios in Sweden that they had been using and they thought it might be the end of their careers. Mikael Akerfeldt rang Steve and he invited them over and co-produced not one but two albums from the material they brought with them; 'Damnation' and 'Deliverance'. Who is this band?

Answer: Opeth

Steve Wilson also co-produced 'Blackwater Park'. What a brilliant album!
8. Mikeal Akerfeldt talks about a lot of the work having been done at Steve's studios. He says that it was actually Steve's mum's back bedroom. What are their studios called?

Answer: No Mans Land

Steve Wilson grew up in Hemel Hempstead, UK.
9. On which Porcupine Tree album did Adrian Belew and Mikael Akerfeldt guest?

Answer: Deadwing

They have had many illustrious guests in the past including Robert Fripp and Alex Lifeson.
10. Porcupine Tree are a four piece band except when they now play live. Who adds backing vocals and guitar for them on stage?

Answer: John Wesley

He has played and sung in a more minor role on several of the albums too. He introduced Steve Wilson to Babicz acoustic guitars. Lovely!
