Proust was born in Auteuil-Neuilly-Passy. This was the southern sector of a rustic part of Southern Paris. He was born at his mother's uncle's house.

His father was a Catholic doctor and his mother came from a rich, cultured Jewish background.

Madame Arman had a salon which Proust visited. Anatole Ferance was a friend of hers. Hahn was a very close friend of Proust's.

"Les Plaisirs" was his first book, a collection of short stories and poems, published in 1896. He began writing the novel "Jean Santeuil" in 1895 but abandoned it. (The unfinished work was later published in 1952.)

After this Proust increasingly became something of a virtual recluse, withdrew from social life and he spent most of his time in bed writing. He lined his bedroom with cork to exclude noise. He always had all the windows shut and the air full of inhalents.

Combray is a small town, two hours south-west of Paris, in central France that Proust used as a model. It is one of the narrator's childhood vacation homes in "Remembrance of Things Past". Originally known as "Illiers", the village was renamed Illiers-Combray during the Proust centennial in 1972.

Answer: No. Reynaldo Hahn was thought to have been one of his lovers.

Answer: Proust died of pneumonia in 1922
